Cowabunga Dude – this game is totally awesome! TMNT Hero Portal by Jakks Pacific allows you to plug in and play – no console is required!
TMNT was huge when I was growing up and now they’re back to defeat Shredder and his Foot Clan with Hero Portal! These heroes in a half shell complete 18 special missions through 6 stages. Switch out different heroes to complete different challenges, discover secret locations, and unlock special attacks.
We don’t have gaming systems in our home. Most gaming companies do not focus on age appropriate games for toddlers or elementary aged children, so the Hero Portal by Jakks is a perfect fit!

Do you have a favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle?

If your boys (or you!) want to know the secret to getting really high scores in this game, tell them to try to maintain their combos for as long as possible; the combo “multiplier” is really a Fibonacci sequence, so while the combo is active, the next enemy defeated yields a lot more points than the one before it, far better than a literal, scalar multiplier. The end-of-level point bonuses are nothing compared to the combo bonuses!
I’m a TMNT fan back to the late 80s, and stayed a fan through the 2003-2009 animated series as well (a great show!). It’s nice to see today’s kids just as excited for these half-shelled heroes.
Oh, and my favorite turtle was always Leo. I kind of wanted it to be Donnie, since he was the tech dude, but Leo was the leader and tactician.

I loved the TMNT game on nintendo way back when! I think my kids would love this one! The portal toys are a real hit. But where to put them all?

I honestly don’t know much about them, except I think there’s a Michelangelo, right? Kids probably know everything though. Very cool game!

I loved Leonardo as a kid, but my son hasn’t gotten into them at all. His friend however would LOVE this game!

I loved the TMNT as a child, especially when my brother gave me a stuffed TMNT one Christmas. My son mostly gets into SpongeBob, but I’m sure this is something he’d enjoy since he loves video games.

I am blown away with technology these days. No console? No cartridges? How will kids understand the gratification of blowing in to the cartridge to get it to stop freezing!? HAHAHAHA Sorry just having a moment of nostalgia. That is awesome. My girls never got in to TMNT – but Mike apparently was a HUGE fan when he was a kid. He morphed in to like a 12 year old watching the movie LOL
Jennifer H says
hahaha yes I totally remember doing that too! We actually just saw the latest movie when on vacation. 🙂
