Are you looking for some inspiration for your next Disney themed party? Consider hosting an outdoor movie night! They can be hosted almost any time of year (weather permitting), and allow you and your guests a Disney themed night under the stars. Doesn’t that sound fun? Here’s how to host a Disney outdoor movie night!
How to host a Disney outdoor movie night
Outdoor Movie Prep
First, let’s talk set up. Here’s what you’ll need:
A quality portable projector, like this one is key. Next, you’ll want to make sure everyone can hear the movie. This Ion Tailgater worked perfectly for our outdoor movie night.
The projector has a really clear picture, so you can use areas like the garage door, side of your home, or make your own screen with PVC pipes like Amy at As The Bunny Hops blog. Another option is purchasing an outdoor movie screen, like one of these.
Disney inspired food
Over the summer we hosted a Zootopia outdoor movie screening. The party was filled with Zootopia inspired food like those infamous Pawsicles (pictured above) and other movie-themed decor.
It was such a big hit that we’ve hosted several more Disney outdoor movie nights with friends. Here’s another idea: a Jungle Book movie night with some really fun treats like these Kaa Burgers pictured below.
My friend and fellow blogger Jen at The Suburban Mom hosted a Mickey Mouse block party. She has a lot of fun party ideas + FREE cupcake toppers printables too.
Oh and this Mickey Mouse pizza was a huge hit at another party I hosted. Can you tell we’re big Disney fans? 🙂
Zootopia, The Jungle Book, and Mickey Mouse are all great Disney party ideas for gender neutral celebrations.
But I can’t talk about Disney without mentioning my favorite princess – Ariel! Mama Challenge has some great ideas for hosting an “under the sea” party including those adorable seashell donning cupcakes (pictured above).
What to ask the guests to bring
You only have so many seating and blankets, right? Ask your guests to bring their own portable chairs or blankets, and bug spray. You are outdoors after all.
I suggest having guests arrive just before sunset. That way they can settle into their spots, and grab a plate of food before the movie begins.
Other fun items you’ll want to have on hand for your Disney outdoor movie night are lights, like lanterns and glow in the dark bracelets for kids, place cards for the table describing the food, and trays are helpful for guests to carry their food and drinks too.
I found many of the items pictured below at Michael Crafts store on sale, or here are some hanging solar lights that would be great for the outdoor party. Here’s a set of bamboo serving trays from amazon.com.
We’re looking forward to hosting our next outdoor movie night, especially with the fall season upon us. It will be perfect outdoor weather!
