Visiting Vegas but don’t want to pay for a car service or taxi? Avoid the traffic by using the Las Vegas Monorail! We chose to stay off the strip at a hotel 3 miles away that offered complimentary shuttle service to the beginning of the strip. Once there, we could easily hop on and off the monorail to our various points of interest – it was so convenient!
The strip is a long walk and after spending one day back and forth on it, or just one night in heels, your feet and legs will ache. The cabs are very pricey and the ticker keeps running even in bumper to bumper traffic. Just a 2 mile trip is $20 one way. Renting a car isn’t the best idea unless you plan to visit the Grand Canyon or other attractions off the strip, so we highly recommend utilizing the Las Vegas monorail.
All opinions are my own and may differ from yours. We received complimentary 3 days passes for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was received.
Here are the facts about the Las Vegas Monorail system:
- It is the first driverless public monorail system in the world.
- The Monorail travels the 3.9-mile, seven-station route in 15 minutes or less.
- It reaches speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.
- It features one of the most entertaining, immersive advertising environments of any public transportation systems, elevating marketing to entertainment.
- It boasts one of the smallest footprints of any elevated transit system.
- It operates 365 days a year,19 hours a day during the week and 20 hours a day Friday through Sunday.
The Monorail is a cost-efficient way to travel. Fare options include single ride fare, unlimited one day pass for $12 and an unlimited three-day pass for $28. Considering one cab fare is $20, a three-day monorail pass for $28 is an easy choice! Children five and under ride free too. Tickets are available at the ticket booths or online.
As you can see on the map below the monorail system stops at major hotel locations on the strip:
The monorail system begins at the MGM and makes its way to the Sahara Station in just 15 minutes. The hotels on the strip offer signs inside and outside indicating where you can find the monorail stops. It’s climate controlled, clean, and a smooth ride.
Not to mention it’s safe. The stations are monitored, have security officers, K-9 units, and full video surveillance. When getting on and off the monorail we always saw a security officer and at night the stations are brightly lit up. All stations and trains are equipped with emergency Push-To-Talk intercom telephones as well.

I’ve never been to Vegas, but my hubby and I want to go! If we ever make it that far west, we would definitely use the monorail. I think the only two monorails I’ve ever been on were in Disney and Orlando International Airport.
