I was invited as media to cover this press event. All opinions are mine alone.
Look out for a whole new adventure arising on Disney XD – Gamer’s Guide To Pretty Much Everything. Premiering July 22nd, the live-action comedy stars “Jessie” alum Cameron Boyce, along with Felix Avitia, Sophie Reynolds, and Murray Wyatt Rundus.
About Gamers Guide:
The TV sitcom centers around a 15-year-old professional gamer “KidFury” who is forced to enroll in public school for the first time. He learns to use his virtual gaming skills to get around real-life challenges. He befriends fellow classmates and gamers (Avitia, Reynolds, Rundus) and recruits them to help him earn his pro card back. The series captures the fun spirit of the gaming culture by weaving digital graphics (“Game Over” “Achievement Unlocked”) into the stories.
During our coverage of Ant-Man in LA a few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to visit the set of Gamer’s Guide and chat with the cast. During the visit we watched a network run through of their ninth episode, which I have to stay mum about. 😉 But I can say it was pretty darn funny! We learned there are two “hard core gamers” on their writing staff to help educate the staff and cast on everything gaming. Read on to catch the full Q&A below!
Gamer’s Guide Cast Interview
When asked if any of the four castmates are into gaming, Felix shared that he’s a big gamer, mentioning, “I love to play console games like PS3, PS4, Xbox, and PC gaming. I love the advanced warfare like “Call of Duty’s.” Adding, “I pretty much play anything and everything.”
Since this is a brand new show, we asked the cast to describe their characters in detail so we can get to know them.
Murray plays Wendell on the show and described his character as “full of himself” and “cocky.” Adding, “He believes he is the mastermind of everything going on.”
Sophie mentions she plays Ashley on the show and her character may not be “the smartest with the books, but has a really good heart, a good friend and great gamer.”
Cameron shares that he plays Conor who is a professional gamer who went around the world in gaming tournaments, and after a freak accident is now just a regular kid. His character struggles with adjusting and eventually befriends the three gamers.
Felix plays Franklin on the show and describes his character as “positive” and “energetic.” He adds that he’s not the best gamer, but just wants to fit in and be apart of the group.
Regarding being on set, Cameron shares that the respect for each other shows up on screen. Adding, “you can tell the cohesiveness we share as a group.” When asked about going from the set of “Jessie” to Gamer’s Guide, Cameron describes it as, “a lot of differences. The schedule is the biggest adjustment.” He describes his new cast as instant family and that the transition has been smooth.
We had a few minutes to walk around the set before their run through and snap a few pics with the cast. They were all super friendly and great to chat with. I mentioned to Cameron that we saw a screening of “Descendants” (airing on Disney Channel July 31st) which he also stars in. He was interested to get my feedback on the film. By the way, you guys are going to love it! I’ll be sharing more details about that soon.
Stay tuned for Disney XD July 22nd to watch the first episode of Gamer’s Guide To Pretty Much Everything, and let me know your thoughts! For more info on the show, upcoming episodes and video clips, check out their page here.
