I was invited as media to cover this press event. All opinions are mine alone.
Meet the #Antourage trio – T.I., Michael Pena & David Dastmalchian. When Ant-Man needs back up, he knows he can lean on these three for help. We had the opportunity to sit down with the guys during the #AntMan press coverage a few weeks ago. They are absolutely hilarious and had us laughing from the moment they stepped in the door. Michael even pulled out his phone to Instagram a pic of us during the interview. That was pretty cool.
The guys nicknamed themselves the Antourage, which is a clever choice. It’s apparent that they have a bond beyond their roles in the film. They spent the majority of the interview cracking everyone up, including themselves. Check out the interview recap below.
Antourage T.I., Michael Pena & David Dastmalchian:
T.I. opened by sharing a funny story about the first time they did the van scene outside of Hank Pym’s home and how most of that didn’t make it on the big screen. Michael adds, “that would be another kind of movie.” David shared that he was intimidated at first because he was fans of everyone in the film, but they began cracking jokes and made him feel welcome right away.
Q: So Michael your story telling is hilarious…are you like that in real life?
Michael: “No, actually I was the quiet kid growing up. Yeah, I remember I got messages on Facebook like out of all people to be an Actor you’re the guy? I was Captain of the wrestling team and track team and I loved sports and stuff.”
Regarding their roles:
Michael describes his character, Luis, as the “optimistic criminal.” David adds that he is a huge comic geek and wanted to play a role that his mom could watch in the cinema and not be terrified because he plays some “pretty goofy characters.” T.I. shared that he got a call just a few weeks before the film started shooting to go read for a role. Michael jokes, “it must be cool being a rapper.” The whole room laughed.
The guys joked about things like coming up with the Antourage name to a whole new storyline for them to come back in another Marvel film. T.I. adds, “Even cooler though is they should give us a comic book.” All the guys seemed to be on board with that, mentioning let’s make it trend. T.I. also shared that although the script didn’t read comedic for them, it just came naturally when they began to shoot.
It was a real joy to sit down with these three. They were so open and funny. For other exclusive interviews, check out my earlier posts with Michael Douglas and Paul Rudd.
Don’t forget Ant-Man opens in theaters everywhere July 17th! You guys are going to love this Marvel film that focuses on family, laughter, and adventure!
