Are you looking for fun fall crafts for kids? Today I’m sharing our latest craft: a leaf wreath. The boys had a lot of fun using their imagination to create their own wreath. We began by searching our neighborhood for leaves, which ended up being quite the scavenger hunt. This year Florida is not participating in fall as our temps continue to be in the 80’s-90’s. So…we decided to use a mix of real and faux leaves in a variety of shapes and sizes for the craft.
Fall Leaf Wreath
What you’ll need:
- Construction paper
- Assortment of leaves/pinecones
- Scissors
- Table cover
- A variety of paint colors (we used Kwik Stix paint sticks)
Directions:
After the kids have selected their construction paper color, fold the paper in half lengthwise. Cut a small semi-circle in the middle of the paper. Then cut a large semi-circle around the edge. (Depending on their age, you have may to assist them with the cutting portion of the craft.) Open to find your wreath shape!
It’s time to paint! By using Kwik Stix solid tempera paint, the boys did not need smocks, or paintbrushes! These quick drying paint sticks are easy to use, simply uncap, twist, and paint – right on the leaves. Thanks to the Pencil Grip Co for inspiring today’s craft with their new paint sticks!
Don’t have Kwik Stix? No worries – put a variety of paint colors on paper plates for the kids to choose from. Paint directly on the leaf then press it flat onto the wreath. Gently pull-up on the leaf, stem first. Voila – a beautiful fall leaf imprint! Continue adding more leaf prints to the wreath until it is full of beautiful impressions. Then hang them in a window.
We chose to use traditional fall colors for our wreaths, but really the sky is the limit! The kids loved using the Kwik Stix paint sticks and have already asked to do another craft.
I love how mess-free painting projects can be now that we have Kwik Stix! The paint dries quickly and can be displayed immediately. They are versatile too – you can use them on poster board, cardboard, wood and even canvas.
