Ginger Health Benefits: The ginger root has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. Adding fresh ginger to your beverage, or as a spice when cooking can provide many benefits. It pairs well with seafood, pork, and even apples.
Here are just a few health benefits of adding ginger to your diet:
Nausea – pregnancy can bring on many symptoms, but one that’s all too common is morning sickness. Additionally, cancer patients can also have a nausea side effect when getting treatment. Drinking beverages, like ginger ale, tea with ginger, and the ginger lime spritzer (below) can help relieve nausea and vomiting.
Digestive tract – the compounds in ginger have been known to help relieve gastrointestinal irritation, including IBS, gas, upset stomach and colic.
Pain – Some research shows that taking ginger can modestly reduce pain in some people with a form of arthritis called “osteoarthritis.” As referenced on WebMD here, additional studies have shown positive results in reducing pain for arthritis, and using massage oils that contain ginger seem to reduce short-term stiffness and knee pain.
