This past Sunday our family had the pleasure of being invited to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to attend an early screening of Disney’s Moana, in theaters November 23rd. As if seeing the film early wasn’t a big enough surprise, Disney also surprised us with a special visit by Moana and screenwriter, Jared Bush! Read all about our exciting evening at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and a Moana Disney movie review.
This is a guest post by Kippy. All opinions are her own. A big thanks to Disney Parks Blog for this opportunity.
Moana Disney Movie
We are big Disney fans! We own most of the Disney classics going back to long before we were born. And so we say very enthusiastically, that this movie did not disappoint! It had all of the elements that will make this movie as big of a hit as their others! The characters were easy to become attached to and the music was perfect! We are enjoying the soundtrack as I type!
We first ventured to the Spirit of Aloha for a sumptuous banquet of Polynesian themed foods. I’m not exaggerating when I say that everything was just delicious! And the presentation…eye catching!
Very soon after starting our meal, we were joined by Moana on stage! Not only was she beautiful, but so friendly too! We all took the opportunity to take pictures with her before we were honored with the presence of the screenwriter of the film, Jared Bush.
Jared gave us some background on the film before graciously spending a few minutes with each of us to answer questions and take photos with us. He was truly as nice as they come. Our daughter, Madison, was especially excited that he remembered her, and mentioned her by name as one of the children he spoke with before he introduced the movie to us all.
The screening was set up by Disney on the beach at the Polynesian Village Resort. The temperature dropped at a rate much faster than any of us seemed prepared for, but Disney was ready with plenty of towels for us to use as blankets, and lots of hot coffee, hot chocolate and yummy snacks to distract us from the chill.
About Moana:
An adventurous teenager sails out on a daring mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once-mighty demigod Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. Together they sail across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always sought: her own identity.
Our review of Moana:
We were so happy to watch our eight year old daughter watch a movie with a strong, young, female character on a journey to find out who she is, and what she is capable of. Her adventures along the way were quite entertaining. We were big fans of the chicken, Hei Hei. He provided some great comic relief at just the right times! Even though Moana and Maui didn’t get along well at first, it was nice to see how they worked out their issues and developed a relationship based on mutual respect. It’s a great lesson for our kids! My husband and I were also pleased for our daughter to see Disney add to the diversity of their characters by basing this movie on the Polynesian culture. We are excited to watch it again soon to find more gems to learn from this truly entertaining new Disney film, Moana!
