Plan the perfect beach getaway to the beautiful, historic area of St. Simons Island, Georgia! One of 13 major islands in the chain located on the southern tip of Georgia and Florida’s northern coastline, St. Simons Island is the largest at roughly 40 miles in length. This small, quaint town boasts salt marshlands, beachside views, historic landmarks and so much more! If you’re looking for a luxury getaway, there’s no place like The King and Prince Beach & Golf Resort on St. Simons Island.
The King and Prince Resort
I was invited as media for this special FAM experience. All opinions are my own.
The History
Originally a beach club, The King and Prince was the center of the island’s social scene. It went through several renovations throughout the 1930’s, and after adding 110 guest rooms in 1941, The King and Prince Hotel opened its doors to the public. Shortly after WW II began, the U.S. Navy used the hotel as an operational center, and the hotel reopened to the public in 1947. The King and Prince became the choice beach vacation destination during the 1950’s and 60’s.
After changing hands on several occasions and undergoing many enhancements, restorations, and expansions, the beach & golf resort now includes a variety of room choices including oceanfront suites, premium oceanfront rooms, resort view rooms, beach villas, and even resort residences. The mediterranean architecture mixed with the pristine grounds, and exceptional pools are some of the best features the hotel has to offer.
Accomodations
I had the opportunity to stay in a 2-bedroom oceanfront villa during my 4 day stay at the resort. Take a walk through my villa with me in the short video below!

Surrounding Area
In addition to the wonderful resort accommodations, St Simons Island features plenty to do. During my stay I toured the area with Captain Fendig and crew aboard the Lighthouse Trolley. There’s no better way to see the town! I also spent time at the Golden Isles Marina where I took a dolphin cruise and tour of the port of Brunswick.
The 2 1/2 tour provided amazing views of the ocean and surrounding islands. Cap shares rich history about the area, including information about the shrimping industry, and the very unique bird island.
Bird island is exactly that. A small island where the birds can live peacefully. What’s really unique about the island is the abundance of rare white pelicans that habitat there. Just look at all of them in the picture I captured below!
We made several other stops during our trolley tour, which I’ll share with you in a later post. One area I enjoyed learning about was 15th street – it’s one of the only public accessible beach areas on the entire island.
During my walk down to the beach, I spotted this beautiful butterfly garden and couldn’t resist capturing a few photos.
Dining at The King and Beach Resort
ECHO, a new oceanfront restaurant at the resort, pays tribute to the hotel and St. Simons Island’s history. Their classic coastal cuisine and relaxing atmosphere provide guests with the ultimate foodie escape. ECHO’s executive chef, James Flack, coordinated all of the meals during my stay, providing an array of popular dish favorites from shrimp and grits to eggs benedict. On the final evening, I had the luxury of dining in the exclusive Retreat Room for a 5 course wine pairing meal. This space is often used for meeting and special events, like weddings. It overlooks the ocean and has an incredible view. I highly recommend coordinating a dinner there!
Speaking of the 5 course wine pairing, Chef James outdid himself with menu options like carmelized butternut squash bisque, poached pear and a winter salad, and a Japanese Wagyu filet. It was an extraordinary meal and view!
Speaking of the view, each morning and evening I enjoyed the awe-inspiring scenery from my ocean view room. It was so nice to sit on the balcony and reflect on the days’ activities.
King and Prince offers a turndown service too (may be an additional cost). You may find local favorites like Amelia Toffee and Sugar Marsh Cottage products as a “welcome home” greeting each evening in your room or suite.
I truly can’t say enough good things about The King and Price Resort. St. Simons Island is an absolute must-visit destination any time of year! Stay tuned for an additional post about the Top Free Things to do on St. Simons Island, coming soon.
