One of the best spelling apps for kids is Wonster Words! Perfect for preschoolers, kindergarteners, and first graders, Wonster Words is designed to teach ABC’s, spelling and phonic skills. Oh and this top-rated spelling app is FREE! Awesome, right? It’s one of our favorite new apps to use! The company creators, 77SPARX, are parents too and understand the importance of learning through play.

About this award-winning App:
In Wonster Words, kids and toddlers play with silly letters and hilarious monsters. Kids first put together words through interactive spelling puzzles, ABC hide-and-seek, and other engaging letter based mini-games. Once the words are completed, children will enjoy cute, defining animations head-lined by the lovable Wonsters. The app does not contain ads and uses a parent gate for in-app-purchases.
Wonster Words has won numerous awards including Mom’s Choice, Children’s Technology Review Editor’s Choice and NAPPA!
Additional Features:
- Help kids spell new words using phonics, word families, digraphs, and more.
- Fun mini-games for many repeat plays
- Silly animations that reinforce the definition of words in a fun and engaging way
- Encourages kids to engage and explore, with no scoring, quizzing, limits, or stress.
We recently reviewed another app by the company called Puzzingo. Similar to Puzzingo, kids select a specific topic and then play through solving puzzles, but with Wonster Words it’s word puzzles. Kids will drag letters to spell a specific word while hearing the phonics sound, then learn to pronounce the word once completed.
Some of the topics available in this best spelling app include Space Adventure, Outdoor Adventure, Birthday, Racers, and specific blended sounds like TH, CH and much more. I really like the animation at the end of each word puzzle which reinforces what the child has learned while teaching them word definitions too.
There’s so much to learn and do in the Wonster Words app. It’s great for engaging your little ones. I highly recommend downloading this free educational app for your kids. Find it on Amazon, iOS and Google Play compatible products.
Special Google Play Promotion:
During 12/28-1/6, the All Access pass (upgraded version from the free app) for Wonster will be discounted to $9.99 on Google Play. The regular price was $14.99. Please note: the discount is only on Google Play, not iOS or Amazon.

This sounds pretty neat. If it gets kids interested in words & spelling—& actually makes it fun— that sounds great to me!

I still remember all the nights I spent in tears trying to do my spelling and reading homework for first and second grade. I had the hardest time, kind of traumatic to be honest. Anything that will help a kid learn is a plus for me, I wish this had been around when I was a kid.

Oh so sorry to hear that Cynthia. 🙁 Technology really has improved immensely over the last decade, and it has become a wonderful teaching tool!
