Walt Disney World is making loads of updates to their parks, including Animal Kingdom! Take a wild ride with me through the African safari, crossing dangerous bridges, exploring Pandora: The World of Avatar, and more in this what to do at Animal Kingdom Park post! There was even a celebrity sighting during our fun adventure, so keep reading for more.
I was invited as media to cover this event. All opinions are my own.
What to do at Animal Kingdom Park – Must See Attractions!
We can’t talk about Animal Kingdom without bringing up their phenomenal new land, Pandora: The World of Avatar. This new immersive experience for guests, which is based on the record-breaking box office hit, Avatar, offers a mystical world for guests to explore with 2 new attraction rides, a fast-casual restaurant, and more! There’s so much to see and do that I dedicated an entire post to talk about Pandora: The World of Avatar.
Take a walk on the wild side with Animal Kingdom’s Wild Africa Trek
This is my fabulous group of bloggers that joined me for the 3 hour Wild Africa Trek. Safety is key, so once we were suited up in gear, that included harnesses and a bottle of water, we made our way through a hidden gate on a private expedition of Animal Kingdom’s safari.
We stopped at the hippo pond before hiking through some more brush to the top of a rickety bridge over top of Animal Kingdom’s vast safari area. Once we were harnessed we each took our time crossing not one but two long bridges over birds, hippos, and hissing crocs too!
The bridge is “made” to look intimidating and just a bit daring, but it’s completely safe – I’ve actually done the Trek twice now! Oh and you get a private photographer for the Trek as well, so you can snap plenty of awesome pictures along your adventure.
Walk some of the Trek with me in this short video clip!
We were pretty sweaty by this point, so it was nice to have a private ride waiting for us with cool towels that then led us on a tour of the remainder of Animal Kingdom’s safari. We watched the different animals roam, eat and play before making a pit stop at a private Boma on the safari for a snack while taking in the beautiful scenery.

Festival of the Lion King Show
Join the inhabitants of the Pride Lands for a grand celebration of The Lion King. Sing along to your favorite songs from the film in this vibrant and exciting retelling of the tale of the cub who would be king, a lion prince fulfilling his destiny to become ruler – wildly presented by Simba and his friends in their own version of the story.
Seated inside an air conditioned theater, watch a live performance with singers, dancers, acrobatics and more! It’s one of the best attractions to see while visiting Animal Kingdom!
There was a special guest at the show – Ernie Sabella – the voice of Pumbaa from the original Lion King film! He stood up and greeted the audience in his familiar warthog voice. The audience cheered with excitement!
Celebrate the magic of nature after dark with the Rivers of Light show!
This brand new water show combines live performances, light, and video projection to wonderfully composed music. This is a must see! Have you cameras ready as the water begins to dance and laser animation is projected on the roaring fountains. It’s truly an incredible show, so much so that I wrote a dedicated post about Rivers of Light!
If you’re planning a trip to Walt Disney World in the near future, definitely make your way to Animal Kingdom for a wild adventure! I hope you enjoyed this recap of what to do at Animal Kingdom Park.
