Be prepared to laugh out loud for hours! Tootsie The Musical is now playing at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando. While DPC pivoted to socially distanced outdoor festivals during Covid, it officially opened its doors to the first Broadway show of the season last night and we were so happy to be there!
I was invited as media to cover this event. All opinions are my own.
Tootsie The Musical
Follow the story of Michael Dorsey, a talented but difficult actor who struggles to find work until one show-stopping act of desperation lands him the role of a lifetime. How can Michael shake his bad reputation so he can get work in the acting business again? Smart on his feet, Michael makes the desperate attempt to step into “Dorothy Michaels” shoes as a no-nonsense southern lady.
When he lands the role as a nurse in a Romeo & Juliet Broadway spin-off, he’ll have to keep this act going. Dawning a red wig and red lipstick, Michael is able to fool almost everyone, but at what expense? While his original intentions were to keep working in an industry he loves, Michael ends up learning life lessons along the way that softens his egotistical outer shell.
Drew Becker does an outstanding job as both Michael and Dorothy, creating two unique voices for the roles, as well as singing too. I can’t leave out the comedic relief Michael’s roommate, and ex-girlfriend bring to the stage too. The show is clever and funny. It has punchlines for days to keep you laughing!
Tootsie is now playing at the Dr. Phillips Center through November 7th, showtimes vary. Get tickets here.
Additionally, masks and negative COVID-19 tests (or full vaccination) are required for indoor shows.
