Campbell’s® Condensed Chicken Noodle soup has come a long way. Introduced in 1934, it was originally called “Chicken with Noodles” and enjoyed only moderate success. Later that same year, an innocent misstatement on a popular radio program caused sales to sky-rocket. One of the famous on-air personalities misread his copy and accidentally called the product “Chicken Noodle” soup. Suddenly, Campbell started receiving large orders for their “new” product. The soup was formally renamed “Chicken Noodle” after the erroneous turn of phrase caused high demand for the soup. How funny is that?
Here are a few other fun soup facts:
- Frank Sinatra always asked for chicken and rice soup to be available to him in his dressing rooms before he went on stage.
- It has been noted that pop-art artist, Andy Warhol, found the inspiration to paint his “Campbell’s Soup Cans” series because that’s what he had for lunch every day for 20 years.
- Each can of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup contains 32 feet of noodles.
Campbell’s has been a family staple for many generations. Check out this vintage Campbell’s Chicken Noodle soup ad from September of 1959, and see if any of your family members remember it.

Aww, Campbell’s is a part of most’s childhood. I love that they have kept the same, but added a lot to their line as well.
