Death on the Nile Movie Review
In director Kenneth Branagh’s mystery-thriller “Death on the Nile” based on the 1937 novel by Agatha Christie, Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer) and Linnet Ridgeway (Gal Gadot) are a picture-perfect couple on a honeymoon voyage down the Nile River which is tragically cut short.
Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot’s Egyptian vacation aboard a glamorous river steamer turns into a terrifying search for a murderer. Set against an epic landscape of sweeping desert vistas and the majestic Giza pyramids, this tale of unbridled passion and incapacitating jealousy features a cosmopolitan group of impeccably dressed travelers, and enough wicked twists and turns to leave audiences guessing until the final, shocking denouement. Watch the trailer here.
Heiress Linnet Ridgeway has more money than she knows what to do with. When she catches up with longtime school friend Louise she quickly falls in love with Louise’s fiance. After a whirlwind romance, Linnet and Simon Doyle are married and head off on a sightseeing honeymoon. There’s just one problem…they can’t shake Louise. She shows up at each of their honeymoon destinations. Talk about a woman scorned!
Thankfully, there’s a super sleuth, Hercule Poirot, on the case and he joins the newlyweds along with their close family and business associates aboard a boat down the Nile River. Soon after things take a turn for the worse and you’re mind is busy following the clues to solve the murder mystery.
While Death on the Nile is filled with mystery and drama, there are a few slower parts. The opening black and white scene provided a backstory for Mr. Poriot but I felt it could’ve been easily cut from the film entirely. However, overall the star-studded cast does a fantastic job pushing the film forward. I love a good mystery!
My best tip would be to expect the unexpected!
