Disney+ Godmothered Movie Review
“Godmothered” is a comedy about Eleanor, a young, inexperienced fairy godmother-in-training (Jillian Bell) who upon hearing that her chosen profession is facing extinction, decides to show the world that people still need fairy godmothers. Finding a mislaid letter from a 10-year-old girl in distress, Eleanor tracks her down and discovers that the girl, Mackenzie, is now a 40-year-old single mom (Isla Fisher) working at a news station in Boston. Having lost her husband several years earlier, Mackenzie has all but given up on the idea of “Happily Ever After,” but Eleanor is bound and determined to give Mackenzie a happiness makeover, whether she likes it or not.
When Eleanor leaves The Motherland for Boston to find a now grown-up Mackenzie, she gets quite the awakening. People don’t believe in fairytales anymore. The woefully naive godmother-in-training is determined to win Mackenzie over at all costs.
Through a series of comical ups and downs, the two begin to bend towards a different outlook. Eleanor now sees that “happily ever after” doesn’t have to mean prince charming comes in on his white horse to save a fair maiden. Instead, the film redefines what that means in the 21st century.
While Mackenzie begins to see that her happiness has been right in front of her the whole time. The story relays a great message about appreciating what you have and being joyful in everyday things.
Disney+ Godmothered will keep you laughing! You and your family will love this adorable film.
