Disney Pixar's Lightyear Movie Review - My Boys and Their Toys

You’ll never believe who Zurg is!! The origin story of Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear is officially in theaters and it’s very different than what you’d expect. Disney Pixar’s Lightyear Movie Review

About the film: The definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans aka Captain America), the hero who inspired the toy, “Lightyear” follows the legendary Space Ranger after he’s marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth alongside his commander and their crew. As Buzz tries to find a way back home through space and time, he’s joined by a group of ambitious recruits and his charming robot companion cat, Sox. Complicating matters and threatening the mission is the arrival of Zurg, an imposing presence with an army of ruthless robots and a mysterious agenda.

I don’t know if you’re a cat person (I am not) but Lightyear’s robot companion, Sox, steals the show with his infinite humor! I find it to be a nice comic relief from the intense space ranger missions and battle scenes with Zurg and his minion robots.

Is Pixar’s Lightyear Movie for Kids?

Absolutely! But don’t expect any relevance to Toy Story in this film. Heck – Buzz Lightyear isn’t even a toy in this film, he’s a highly respected Space Ranger.

Lightyear is rated PG and ideal for families with younger kids, but I will say this film is equally entertaining for teenagers too. There’s a high level of space references and a great deal of adventure.

To Infinity and Beyond!

When Buzz, his commander, and their crew of intergalactic explorers crash on a hostile planet without a way home, they find a way to survive. They begin by building their own space station and sourcing energy. After years of planning, Lightyear is ready for his first attempt at getting to “lightspeed” which will allow them to return home.

When the first mission fails and Buzz almost derails his return to the hostile planet to get back to his crew, he finds out just how quickly time goes by in space. He hasn’t aged at all, but the rest of his crew has! Buzz is more determined than ever to get everyone home safely but he doesn’t have time on his side.

Will Buzz get the crew home? And what happens when the planet gets an unexpected visitor by the name of Zurg? You’ll learn why Zurg is Lightyear’s nemesis and his true identity in Disney’s Lightyear movie!

Are there post-credit scenes in Lightyear? Yes, 3 actually!
