Just a few miles north of Atlanta is an adorable town brimming with areas to explore. Dunwoody Georgia is a getaway destination that has some of the coolest dining spots, beautiful parks and nature trails, and really nice people too. My family and I recently enjoyed a weekend in Dunwoody and we’re sharing our favorite hot spots in this weekend travel guide.
This is a partnered post with Dunwoody CVB. All opinions are my own.
Dunwoody Georgia – A Weekend Travel Guide
TreeTop Quest is the perfect place to stretch your legs after a long car ride – that’s why it’s the first stop on our list! TreeTop Quest is one of the most unique, family-friendly adventure courses in Georgia with several levels of obstacle courses and zip lining fun! After a quick practice course to learn the ropes, we were on our own to explore the beautiful nature around us from 55 feet above the ground. There are plenty of helping hands throughout the course should any family member need some extra encouragement or assistance too.
We spent a few hours making our way through the obstacle courses and zip lines – check out this recap video of our adventure! We highly recommend exploring your wild side at TreeTop Quest in Dunwoody! They offer online discounts and season passes for locals too. Learn more here.
After you’ve worked up an appetite, we recommend dinner at Novo Cucina. Novo’s chic vibe offers a spacious restaurant with an inviting open-air sunroom surrounded by French doors that open to the outdoors. It’s the perfect atmosphere for intimate or fine dining and a casual family meal. Inside there’s an open kitchen, bar, and gelato station.
The menu includes fresh Italian and locally sourced food, featuring artisanal pizza, hand-made pastas, fresh salads, and more. We recommend the Tagliolini al Pomodoro e Basilico and Tagliata di Manzo. And for dessert – it’s hard to choose one gelato flavor, so we did the trio with Snicker Bar, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Mint Chocolate Chip. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere couldn’t be better! Learn more here.
For day 2, we recommend Brook Run Park where you can walk or bike the trail, visit the playground, or check the calendar for local activities. We were fortunate to visit during Discover Dunwoody’s Arts & Culture Month where Painting with a Twist was onsite for a fun fall painting project. My older son and I enjoyed painting a few rocks that would be placed throughout the park, and he made a Pokemon Pumpkin to take home.
Next, take the convenient MARTA train into the city for one of our favorite Atlanta detours – The College Football Hall of Fame. It has three floors of personalized, engaging and interactive experiences. If you know anyone who loves football – don’t miss this stop! I have some football-obsessed fans in the family who couldn’t get enough of this place. I’ll be adding a video of the boys’ experience on my Instagram channel soon. Learn more here.
Take the MARTA train back to Dunwoody to enjoy dinner at Cinco Mexican Cantina. Located outside the Perimeter Mall – the second-largest mall in the SE – this authentic Latin-infused Mexican cuisine has an extensive menu with everything from queso fundido to tacos, quesadillas, burrito bowls, fajitas, and more! We chose to sit outdoors and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Their food and service were great! Learn more here.
For your final day, we recommend a stop at Dunwoody Nature Center with beautiful wetlands, trails for hiking, shaded playgrounds, and a one-of-a-kind hammock garden for some relaxation.
We enjoyed an hour or two exploring the grounds in this beautiful and peaceful environment. It’s a great way to burn some energy before the car ride home. Learn more here.
Just up the road from the Nature Center is the beloved neighborhood restaurant Village Burger. Cooked with the freshest ingredients, this foodie stop has delicious burgers, salads, sandwiches, and custard too! We recommend it all!
A big thanks to Discover Dunwoody for providing our accommodations at Embassy Suites Atlanta – Perimeter Center. I can’t think of a better location to stay in Dunwoody Georgia with the conveniences of everything nearby. There’s a Target shopping plaza across the street should you forget something at home and need to stop in, and everything in this travel guide is just minutes away including the MARTA train station which is a short walk from the hotel.
The newly renovated property is very clean with 2-room suites, free breakfast, and evening happy hours too. We highly recommend booking your stay here!
Like I mentioned from the top, we ran into some of the kindest people while visiting Dunwoody Georgia. We truly loved this hometown feel with so much to see and do. It’s the perfect family or couple destination!
