Easy Swedish Meatballs Recipe
We paired this dinner dish with the cauliflower mashed potatoes recipe we shared last week.
Measurements with easy to follow printable directions are at the end of the post.
For the meatballs, you’ll need:
- ground beef
- ground pork
- Italian breadcrumbs
- milk
- heavy whipping cream
- eggs
- garlic
- salt & black pepper
- ground white pepper
- allspice
- onion
- dry parsley
- unsalted butter
- canola oil
For the gravy:
- unsalted butter
- all-purpose flour
- chicken broth
- heavy whipping cream
- soy sauce
- brown mustard
- salt & pepper
Directions:
In a large bowl, mix the beef, pork, breadcrumbs, milk, cream, eggs, garlic, salt, peppers, allspice, onion, and parsley. Mix well with your hands to combine all ingredients.
Roll mixture into about 26-28 small meatballs or 15-18 larger ones.
Heat 2 TBSP of butter and 2 TBSP of oil in a pan on medium heat. Fry meatballs in batches of 5-6 so they brown evenly on each side (time defers depending on size of meatballs). Transfer to a warm plate and cover with foil while cooking other batches.
To speed up this process, we baked some as well as fried them. To bake the Swedish meatballs, preheat oven to 450 degrees and spray a large pan with baking spray. Bake 20-25 minutes, turning once and baking an additional 5 minutes. Once meatballs are all cooked start the sauce.
Add the 1/2 cup unsalted butter to the same pan used to cook meatballs. Once butter is melted, whisk in the flour until it dissolves and turns brown in color. Pour in the broths, cream, soy sauce, and brown mustard. Bring to a simmer and season with salt and pepper to taste. Once sauce starts thickening add meatballs back to pan, cover with lid and simmer on low 10-15 mins.
