Looking for the best prices on certain items during the winter months? You’ve come to the right place. The months of November through January typically have an influx of friends and family visiting, which means you need to stock up on seasonal favorites. Today, I’m sharing a list of the top groceries items to stock up on during the winter season.
Groceries to stock up on
November & December
We can’t talk about November without mentioning turkey. It’s the best time to shop – as many stores will have turkey’s on sale for the holidays. An unopened turkey can be stored in the freezer for 2-3 years, so if you find a good deal, grab an extra for next year (if you have a deep freezer on hand). By the way turkey’s are always cheaper before Thanksgiving so don’t wait.
You’ll turn the heat up (literally) on baking too. Stock up on canned goods like pumpkin, fruit for pies and canned cranberry, plus other baking staples like sugar, flour, nuts and chocolate chips. You’ll likely find deals or coupons on stuffing mix and pie crusts too.
While we’re discussing canned products – don’t forget canned fruits and veggies. Those can typically stay in your pantry for 1-2 years, and many stores will run sales through the season.
Always eat produce that’s in season. It’s cheaper! Stock up on apples, bananas, grapes, lemons, limes, oranges, pears and pomegranates. Vegetables in season include artichokes, avocados, beets, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, leeks, lettuce, parsnips, potatoes, turnips, and winter squash.
January
New Year’s brings new goals, like healthy diets and exercising. Health foods like protein bars and drinks, cereal, and oatmeal are typically in high demand – and on sale during January.
Citrus fruits are another favorite. Stock up on grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, and kiwi.
I love to bake – don’t you? One of my favorite desserts to make during the winter season is Peppermint Oreo Cookie Balls. The whole family loves them! And they are really simple to make. Click the picture below to grab the recipe.
Speaking of Oreo’s, I was in Walmart today and stocked up because I grabbed —> this coupon <—, plus found an additional coupon on the packaging. Double save!
