*Update to How We Helped Alleviate Verbal & Motor Tics Naturally – Jan 2022* Since I’ve received so many inquiries about the post, I wanted to share a quick update.
The main question has been – “is it still working?” Yes – the blend is still going strong 6 years later! I truly wrote this post out of appreciation and gratefulness for finding a solution for our son’s tics.
I wanted to share our personal experience so others (who were feeling hopeless) knew there was possibly another solution that might work for them. 🙂 You can buy the blend here.
How We Helped
Alleviate Verbal & Motor Tics Naturally
By age 2 our son, J, was showing signs of a tic disorder. While we didn’t get a diagnosis until age 4 (after being very persistent), I already knew in my heart what our son was dealing with.
I have a very close family member who suffers from Tourette Syndrome, and it causes involuntary motor, and sometimes verbal tics. This genetic disorder is more dominant in males, and unfortunately, there is no cure.
J will be 7 years old in 2 weeks, and while he has become accustomed to the tics, he has surprisingly never asked “why” he has them.
A friend of mine is very knowledgeable about essential oils and how these can be used in a variety of ways for natural wellness. So, when she kept insisting that I try YL essential oils I decided to lean in.
After a sleepless night of worrying about J’s tics, I found myself online researching essential oils and tics and came across a video of a child who uses a blend of YL oils to help his motor tics. At that moment, I knew there was nothing to lose. With a bit of skepticism, I ordered the necessary essential oils and created the blend using oils from the Premium Starter Kit.
Why we chose to try essential oils for verbal and motor tics
J’s tics had good and bad months. Sometimes his lips would have a red ring around them that almost looked like he put on way too much cherry chapstick, but it was actually chapped skin from not being able to control a tic. Other tics that were bothersome would be him not being able to sit “still” due to a shoulder tic that just wouldn’t quit, or a head twitch.
There are several other disorders that can couple with Tourette Syndrome or tic disorders, like OCD, ADHD/ADD or Anxiety. J definitely has tendencies is several of those areas.
That was September (2014). It took several weeks of consistent application with a carrier oil for me to realize I hadn’t noticed any of J’s tics. I observed him from afar for minutes upon minutes without him noticing. I was in shock.
The tics were quiet, almost unrecognizable to the naked eye. The main tic (eye blinking) was apparent, but it wasn’t as forceful as it had been for the last several years.
You can buy the blend we made here
I spoke privately with my husband about it, who had been skeptical from the start, and he agreed he hadn’t noticed the motor tics in a while. He observed J himself and nodded his head in agreement that something was working. Meanwhile, I kept up the nightly routine of 1-2 drops of the blend over his heart.
The boys had become accustomed to their nightly oil treatments and honestly found it a treat. We didn’t leave our other son, L, out of the fun since the Premium Starter Kit included lavender, thieves, peppermint, joy, peace & calming, and other essential oils that L could safely use.
After quietly using Young Living essential oils, I thought it was important to share our personal story. I’m not saying it’s a cure by any means, but it’s working for us. I am so grateful I stumbled upon a natural way of helping my son.
J still does not know why we started the essential oils. I didn’t want to get his hopes up, or again bring attention to the tics. So there’s definitely not a mind over matter thing here since he’s unaware why I give him a special blend.

How long will a 10ml rollerball of essential oils last? Roughly 60-90 days depending on usage.
Want to make the blend yourself? Check out this quick video that shows you how I make the essential oil blend:
How to apply the blend:
First, apply a carrier oil like olive oil or coconut oil (or include it in the jar – I add 1/3 carrier oil). Combine an even amount of each oil listed above (15-20 drops) into the 10ml jar.
Attach the rollerball and give the YL blend a swirl or two to make sure it’s well blended, then roll 1-2 times on chest (over the heart) or bottoms of feet. You may choose to rub the oils in or let them absorb on their own.
This is applied once daily at night, however, you can choose any time of day that works best for you or your family. And if you don’t see results within a few weeks, try more applications, like twice or three times a day. There are several recommendations from readers in the comments below who have tried the blend.

From my early childhood to my late teens, I had several on and off tics. Ever since I was 18 (21 now), the tics have become substantially worse and are essentially in control my life. I was told it had become TS in 2020, but I wasn’t medicated as the tics were still manageable. I’m seeing a doctor later this week about it, but since I’m on this site, I’m open to trying anything to at least minimize the urge to tic. Are there any recommendations you could give me?
Jennifer says
Hi Alex, thanks for reaching out and sharing your story. You can try the blend I share above. You can purchase the oils yourself, or buy it pre-made. Just click the rollerball image to purchase it. Others have mentioned magnesium supplements have helped. We’ve tried these Calm Gummies with magnesium https://amzn.to/3MHUUDY in the past. Hope this helps!

You say “one drop” at night, but then you use the roller ball. Is one drop like one swipe of the roller ball? Our son’s tics manifest at night about an hour or two before bed, usually when watching TV. I guess the best time to give to him to see if this works is beforehand, since that’s the only time I see his tics.
Jennifer says
Yes 1-2 swipes.

Hello!
My son has tics (one at a time) that will show up. Some only last for a month and some for many months. He never has more than one at a time. I’m fairly confident that he has ADHD since I’ve homeschooled him from the very beginning and have noticed that he fits almost all of the signs and they haven’t let up. He is very impulsive in nature.
I saw this post on a natural way to help with tics and calming the nerves and was super excited! My only question is- if I get a 15ml bottle of each of these essential oils, blend them with the carrier oil, and use it every day- how long will it last? Young Living essential oils are NOT cheap, lol.
I need to know how this will fit into our budget. Thanks !
Jennifer says
Hi Jessica, each 15ml bottle has approximately 250 drops so it will last you months at a time, especially because you are only blending roughly 15 drops of each into a rollerball bottle. I only have to order oils maybe 3 times a year depending on the size I order. I hope this helps your son! 🙂
Adriane says
Thank you so much for this post! We have an 8yr old boy, who developed a minor tic around stressful events, but it also is more present with screen time. With online school since Covid started, it has been out of control, almost constant at times. Removing screens helped quite a bit during the summer but obviously when school started we could no longer remove them. I found your post last week, ordered all the oils and supplies (also found P&C). First application was yesterday, and within hours noticed a 90% improvement. By today, one day later, the improvement is close to 99%. In fact, we didn’t see him tic once the entire second half of the day. I have tried most other natural tic remedies with only very slight improvements. Thank you so much for your post!
Jennifer says
Hi Adriane, this is such wonderful news!! It really is a blessing to have a natural option to help with tics. I’m so glad it’s working for your son. It’s still working for mine and he’s 12 now! 🙂
Zeb says
Have you been doing it every night since he first started his tics?
Jennifer says
Yes for several years now 🙂
Mary says
Is it 15-20 drops of each oil, or total and we split the amounts between the oils? When I do the Peace and Calming roller ball, I only do about 15-18 drops total for the one oil so I want to be sure I’m not using too much. Will this also help calm him? Are the results noticeable the first use or do their bodies need to build it up? Is it best to use at night to last all the next day or the morning? On heart and feet or one or the other? Sorry, I know that’s a lot of questions! I’m hoping this helps. It has been so hard since they have closed schools down and we can’t go anywhere!
Jennifer says
Hi Mary, it’s 15-20 drops of each EO added to a rollerball. I use a 10ml and it holds everything just fine. Some have noticed results within a matter of days. I mentioned above that when we began the blend a few years ago, we had not used essential oils and were unsure if it would work. We noticed a change within 2 weeks or so. We’ve always applied them at night on his chest and that works for us. Some noticed that by applying it in 2 areas it helped. It depends on the severity of the tics. I hope the blend works for you and your family!
Mary says
Do you also put carrier oil on the area before using the roller ball that has the carrier oil in it?
Jennifer says
No, no need.
Sara says
Thank you so much, Jennifer, for posting this oil combination recipe! It has made a world of difference for my 11 year old son. He has had tics off and on since he was in preschool (but I didn’t know they were tics then). I took him to a naturopath a couple years ago and had food sensitivity testing done. That was extremely helpful. As soon as I eliminated those foods, his tics went away. However, food sensitivities change, and we haven’t had the funds to continue seeing the naturopath and repeat the testing. So I started eliminating some foods that were possibly triggering him and went on an Internet search for other options. I am beyond thankful that God led me to your post. I have used essential oils for a number of years now so I had all 6 in my stash. I made a rollerball right away consisting of the essential oils you mentioned and matched it equally with coconut oil as the carrier. He puts it on his feet and heart both morning and night. It probably took a week for the tics to be 98% gone. He still has a tic here and there, like prior to putting on the oil in the morning, but who cares! I have told a friend and my sister about this recipe since they both have children with tics as well. My sister is only on day 2 applying it to her son, so time will tell. However, my friend became a full-on believer after 5 days of consistent application. Her daughter’s tics were gone. They did skip a day accidentally, and the tics came back which further validated her belief in the combination. So again, thank you, thank you, thank you! This post is a gift to all of us moms, dads, grandparents, and other caregivers that watch our kiddos struggle with tics.
Jennifer says
This is wonderful! So glad to hear and thanks so much for sharing your story.
Andrea Prince says
I’m skeptical but willing to try anything. My son is 10 years old, ADHD and on Concerta for his ADHD. He’s always had some kind of transient tic but ever since he turned 10 they have gotten more severe. I know tics peak in kids ages 10-12 so I expected this but he’s embarrassed by it, it affects his ability to focus in school, and he’s just plain tired of his tics. I put him on Intuniv (Guanfacine) to see if that would help calm the tics but so far it hasn’t. I am intrigued by the Essential Oil solution and am willing to give it a shot. Any words of advice as I begin?
Jennifer says
Hi Andrea, thanks for reaching out. I encourage you to take a look at all of the comments from other parents who have tried the blend over the years. It’s certainly not for everyone, but my son is now 11 and it’s still effectively working. I recommend placing the oils together with a roller ball applicator and placing it directly on his skin. Others have found it works by diffusing the blend. I would also suggest adding magnesium to his diet. I hope this helps, and good luck!
Linda says
I just wanted others to know there is hope. Low magnesium was mentioned in a lot of the articles. That’s why I bought the gummies, he likes the taste. I want parents or family to give your oil blends & magnesium a try. All you have to lose is a little money but if it works it’s priceless. Thank you and thank God for sending you my way & all his blessings.
Linda Boone says
My 6 yr old grandson had some eye blinks in 2018, then at the end of August 2019 he started having neck tics regularly. The Pediatrician said it was probably Tourette’s. I was sent your blog about Tourette’s and immediately bought the Young Living Essential Oils. I also bought from Amazon magnesium Calm gummies. He started Sept. 7, 2019 with 2 gummies each morning. Then when the oils arrived on September 11, 2019 I mixed the oils by your recipe and they were rolled on his chest each night Within 1 1/2 weeks of starting the oils his tics stopped. He had a couple of days with eye blinks right after but only a few times. Now on November 14, 2019 he has gone almost 2 months with no tics, blinks ect. I I’m so thankful, we would have tried anything to help him. I even took him to the Chiropractor for I knew it wouldn’t hurt. He’s only taking 1 gummy a day and the oil faithfully. I would encourage any parent to try this even if it doesn’t help your child you at least tried. Thank you again for this article it was a Godsend. I’ll make sure I always have the oils we need for this recipe.
Linda
Jennifer says
This is SO wonderful to hear Linda! Thank you for sharing your story and I’m so glad to hear your grandson is doing well. 🙂
Olivia says
Did you mix the carrier oil in with the essential oils or did you put it on first like the original post? I just ordered to try this combo for my daughter. I want to make sure I am using the right amount of carrier oil!
Jennifer says
Hi Olivia, I put all oils (including carrier) in a roller ball. It’s the size of a 10ml, so I fill 1/3 w/carrier and the remaining w/the blend of EO’s.
Lula Ruger says
Thank you ! This is a very informative post . We really did not have the essential oils when my kids were little at least no one was using them at that time I have used them with my grandson since birth I sure do wish this was around back then
Lindsay says
Thank you. I’ve always added the oils first to the roller bottle and the filled the remaining with the carrier oil, not measuring it out. It’s a pump bottle and I don’t have a dropped. Could I just buy any type of dropper and add it that way? I then roll 2-3 X’s Over his heart and blend in. Should I be doing it another way? He’s also started with a motor tic a few days ago where he has started putting up his middle finger. Needless to say it’s been an overwhelming time.
Jennifer says
I use a pump bottle too – either way works! 🙂 You sound like you are doing everything right, so just keep it up. It’s definitely not a cure and may not work for everyone, but I hope you find success like we did.
Lindsay Olivier says
My son has had body tics on and off and I started following your posts years ago. He has now started with verbal tics within the past week or so. I only use the recipe when he’s in flare-ups. So I started applying it before bedtime over his heart. Do you apply it daily to your son and is it still working for him? Should I apply it everyday even if in no flares?
Jennifer says
Hi Lindsay! Yes, I apply it daily, flares ups or not. I hope this helps!
Angela says
Hi Jennifer, thanks for your reply. May I ask if you still used the EO blend for your child and if it still works? Is your child tic free?
Do we need to do the EO treatment everyday on a permanent basis and does the tic come back one we stop using the EO?
Thanks
Jennifer says
Yes, we use it daily, and have for years. He still has flare ups every now and then when stressed or hyper. The blinking tic has never really gone away, but overall, his other tics have subsided, along with coupled conditions, like OCD, and we are very grateful for that.
Carrie says
Thank you so much for sharing this! We have recently started pursuing help for my 7 y/o daughter as her motor tics have really increased over the past several weeks to the point that they are interfering with normal activity. Starting meds at this age worries me so I am very excited to try this oil combo! Unfortunately this is uncommon in my small-town America so finding local support will be a challenge.
Angela says
Hi Jennifer, can I use castor oil to make the blend? Going to try your blend and hope it helps my daughter’s tic condition.
Thanks
Jennifer says
Hi Angela! Sure, I don’t personally use it, but it can be a carrier oil. 🙂
Enid says
Hi Jennifer! Thank you for ur reply, I hadn’t seen it, hence ended up doing doing 3% per bottle (I divided the 6 eos into 2 different bottles). I have been applying them in the morning and before bedtime for about 2 weeks now and it works! We have noticed that his verbal tics have gone done about 80% and while he’s still doing his throat clearing tics but we r keeping our fingers crossed and will keep applying it faithfully and hope that it will continue to work its miracle. Thank you so much for sharing this combo, am absolutely in love with eos now!
Jennifer says
That is such WONDERFUL news Enid! Keep up the great work! 🙂
Enid says
Hi, my son is 6 years old with t.s. I have gotten all the essential oils from YL, however, I am a little unsure about the dilution ratio for the blend. I had done 10 drops per eo into a 10 ml bottle and also 10 drops of carrier oil, so I have a total of 60 drops of eo and 10 drops of carrier oil. Is that correct? I am afraid that this blend will be too concentrated for him, thanks.
Jennifer says
Hi Enid! I typically start with the carrier and do 1/3 of the bottle and fill the rest with the blend of EO’s (10-15 drops each). I hope that helps!
Ann says
Could you make this into a roller? If so, to make a 10ml roller would you just put the 15 drops in and fill with carrier oil? The roll on feet at night? I’m thinking ease for a 14 year old to do himself…
Jennifer says
Yes, that’s exactly what we do Ann! Easy peasy 🙂
Ras says
Hi do you know if you can use essential oils while still taking medication . thank you
Jennifer says
Hi Ras, I do not know the answer. I can tell you that EO’s are all natural, but I wouldn’t know the effects with medicine.
Katie says
Hello,
My son has developed a tic as well. I use essential oils for my constant headache issues with great success so I am very interested in this…..I am wondering is there a way you could combine all these oils in a roller ball along with the carrier oil? That is what I do for my headaches and it is so easy and handy at all times.
Jennifer says
Hi Katie, yes that’s what we do for the blend and it works for us.
Amanda says
I am just beginning this journey with my 4 year old. He has vocal, facial, and a complex tic. He is also showing early signs of OCD and ADHD. Which is no surprise as that combination runs in my family. Would this blend of oils help with the other 2 as well or just the tics?
Jennifer says
My son also has OCD and ADHD, they tend to couple one another – anyhow, the blend has helped with those as well. Wishing you the best of luck!
andrea frazer says
Do you find this would work just in a diffuser? My teen won’t take any meds for his tics at all or go for anything in a roller. I’m trying to just do what I can do with the diffuser. Thanks.
Jennifer says
Hi Andrea, I believe a few have commented or emailed me and used the blend diffused. The roll on method works for us, so I can’t speak from experience.
Anastasia says
Hi Jennifer… I am Anastasia from Indonesia. I have an 8th years old daughter who has vocal tics (coughing) and motor tics (nose twitching). She has been coughing severely for the past 6 months. She has gone through many specialists and taking so many medicine and finally we have come to conclusion that she has tics disorder. Last week I have given her antipsychotic medicine (lodomer) and she got extrapyramidal after taking it. It was a very frightening moment for us. I would like to ask you for how many weeks we could see the improvement of the tics alleviating if we give her these EO? And will the tics dissapear completely or still has a little remaining on your son? The reason I ask this because her doctor keep insisting in giving her the same medicine even though it had side effect on my daughter. She said she was more concern the tics will stayed permenantly on her if we don’t give her the medicine. I was so confused. Plese give me advice. Thank you.
Stacy says
No new activities. But I’ll definitely try rubbing it on his feet and the diffuser as well. Thanks for the suggestions.
Stacy says
Hi there, my 6 year old son has had mild tics (sniffing, eye blinking, shoulder shrugging) for a couple of years now. I started using this rollerball once a night over his heart about a month ago. I’ve seen no improvement…in fact, it almost seems like his tics have gotten worse. I’m feeling very discouraged. Is it just too soon to tell the effectiveness of the oils? Or should I be rubbing him down more often? Or in more places? Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!
Jennifer says
Hi Stacy, thanks for reaching out! Has there been a recent change to his routine, possibly a sport he’s just joined? Many times I find tics will change up when there’s a new activity or stressor added. I would suggest rubbing the blend on his feet instead, some have mentioned that was helpful. The other option would be diffusing the blend at night in his room. I hope that helps answer your question!
Carrie says
Hello. My son is 7 and has facial tics. Do you think putting this blend in a roller bottle with a carrier oil would be as effective?
Jennifer says
Yes, that’s how we apply it as well.
Lee C says
Hi thank you for sharing your story and the recipe . I don’t have a roller but I do have diffusers at home. One is a small personal one,, 100ml , the other a 500 ml unit and a big one that is 1,000 ml unit. My 11 yr old has TS and I would love to try this and see if it helps him.
How many drops do I add to my diffusers? Does the amount change depending on the size I use.? Which size should I use for him? I have the small one on his desk in his room but I could also give him mine the 500ml one that can go on all night . Which brings me to my next question… Is it best to use the diffuser at bedtime and if so for now many hours should I leave it on.? Thank you in advance.
Jennifer says
HI Lee, we don’t personally use the diffuser, but others who have commented have found success with it. One commenter said: “We have been using 9 to 18 drops, depending on the severity of the tics.” I would start with the personal diffuser and see how that works out first. I hope this helps and you have luck w/the blend!
Lee C says
Thank you! Today is the second night I have it on. I’m not sure how long to leave the diffuser on in his room. His whole room smells strong and TS a little diffuser next to his bed. Any ideas or suggestions on how long I should leave it on for ? Should I do bed time only or also turn on during the day .? I noticed the next morning of his first night with it on. Only had it on for like an hour cuz I didn’t know if it was too much since it smelled strong. Anyways next morning he was so chilled. He normally is a chill kid but he was extra calm. I mean to the point my husband noticed and you know men they barely pay attention. But today his tics are stronger than three days ago. Hmmm,.
Lacie says
My son has had tics for years (blinking) that we related to eye problems. It wasn’t until this winter when he started developing other tics that we realized it was something more. The neurologist dx him with a tic disorder for now, I feel it may be more… Mom instinct. But I was so excited after reading your article, my oils arrived last night. My son who is 11 will be 12 next week is also excited to try them. I pray we have the results that you did. Thank you thank you for sharing your story!!!
Jennifer says
Good luck Lacie! 🙂
Haroula says
Jennifer, thank you so much for posting this! My son is 8 and started a head jerking tic three months ago. It was non-stop head jerking unless he was sleeping. I’ve been using Young Living for years but I don’t know why I never thought of it for the tics. I came across your post and thought I should try. Within two weeks the head jerking was almost completely gone. Since then he has had other tics. Eye blinking, stomach rolling, something small with his leg, and nose sniffing. All of the tics are very short-lived and hardly noticeable. I noticed them because I watch him constantly but the people around us think the tickets are gone.
We use your combo with the roller ball bottle night and morning on the heart, under the feet, and the wrists.
THANK YOU!!! You have helped us so much you have no idea. Just out of curiosity though, how did you come up with this combo?
Jennifer says
Thank you for sharing this wonderful story! I’m so glad to hear it’s working well for your son!! <3 I actually came across a youtube video years ago and thought I'd give it a shot. It's been removed from Youtube for awhile (I think due to her claims). YL is very strict about wording. So while this doesn't work for everyone, it's worked for so many including your son - I'm so happy to hear that!
Mik says
Hi Haroula, your story sounds so similar to mine. My boy developed a head jerking tic about 1.5 months ago and it was non stop head jerk till he was sleeping. It sure was distressing to see! I stumbled on Jennifer’s website while searching Internet for remedies and have started the blend for 2 weeks now. Initially, I just applied the blend on his heart at night, a few days later, I read again that some Mothers here have tried putting it on in the morn as well with success, so I tried day and night and just a week ago started to put on his feet in the morn and night. At night, I also diffuse the room with Lavendar fr YL and I think it helps him to sleep fast and well with minimal jerks. Just to check, you mentioned it took 2 weeks for your boy’s head jerking tics to be gone, did you do the morn and night heart, feet and wrists every day for 2 weeks for results to show? I have yet to try wrists though.
Debbie says
Hi, thank you so much for sharing. My 6 yr old son gets tics once in a while…. and every time I apply this blend it goes away in a matter of days!!
Jennifer says
That’s great news Debbie! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Sandra says
Thank you Jennifer. I meant to ask as well…my son is also using cbd oil with a very little thc (orally) in to help the nervous system. Would it be fine to use this combination together with the cbd?
Sandra says
Hello Jennifer…thank you for sharing with us. I am in South Africa. I bought all the EO except for “peace and calm”. Also could not find Valor. Would I be able to use Chamomile in the place of peace and calm. My son is 15 and going through a hard time at the moment with his tics.
Jennifer says
Hi Sandra, thanks for reaching out. I couldn’t say for certain as I haven’t tried that oil in the blend. If you buy direct from the Young Living site, I believe they are both available. I hope this helps your son, and best of luck!
Cathy says
Hi Jennifer,
I purchased all the oils you suggested. I blended 15 drops of each oil in an amber roller bottle except or the Vetiver. I found it very thick and it did not come out of it’s bottle easily. I only used 10 drops of that. For the past two nights I’ve been spreading first coconut oil and then I swipe once with the roller bottle. My question is how long did it take until you noticed results?
Thank you, Cathy
Jennifer says
Hi Cathy, thanks for your question. Yes, vetiver is a thicker oil than the rest and takes longer to drip out. 🙂 I mentioned above, that we were very skeptical at first, so we weren’t really paying attention, but after several weeks we noticed the tics had calmed. Some others have commented and shared personally with me that it was quicker for them. So I would definitely give it a few weeks. Wishing you success with the blend!
Dana Rodriguez says
This is a really interesting post. I knew essential oils were good for certain things but I had no idea you could create a blend for tics. I am so glad you have found something that helps. This is wonderful!
KT PRESCOTT says
hello
i have a nephew 11 with tourettes- motor/vocal. we suspect vaccines. anyway
we have tried a number of things but so far they keep coming and they seem to get worse with age,
its heartbreaking.
when you say 2 drops do you mean drops of the mix and then add the carrier or do you mean drops of the entire essential and carrier oils? i made a mix with about 20 of most (unfortunately i dont have all the oils yet) of the oils and then added about 3 tablespoons of jojoba carrier oil.
will this work or do i need to make a bigger dosage?
many thanks for sharing your story.
Jennifer says
HI there, thanks for reaching out, and sorry for the circumstances! You can elect to keep the carrier separate, in that case you would apply that first, followed by the blend, or you can add it to the blend bottle. Either option will work. I hope that answers your question, and best of luck to your nephew.
Jennifer says
Thanks Jennifer…..I appreciate your information and your response!
I thought of one other question….I am new to EOs so my question/concern may be incorrect, but I was thinking about your original procedure for applying the blend which was a drop of carrier oil followed by a drop of the blend on the skin. I thought EOs are super concentrated and were supposed to be diluted quite a bit before applying? Any thoughts on this?
Thanks again!!
Jennifer says
Yes, all oils should be diluted. Doing the carrier oil first allows for the EO’s to blend and create the dilution that’s necessary. Later, I found it was easier to just add the carrier to the bottle followed by the EO’s to create the blend – eliminating the 2 step process each night.

My recently turned 2 year old son started exhibiting tics a month ago. Started with blinking (which has subsided), then shoulder / neck tic, face rubbing and in the last few days, I suspect, a vocal tic. We think it is developmental related and he is doing well overall. Do you know if the blend can be used on kids as young as 2? It breaks my heart seeing these tics.
Also, in the comments are many people who said they were going to try it but only a handful have followed up on the results. Would love to hear back from more people that have tried this and whether it worked or not!
Jennifer says
Hi Jennifer, thanks for your question, and so sorry to hear about your little guy! Essential oils are a natural product, from leave extracts, etc, so they should be safe for most. With that said, anyone can have a reaction to anything, so always proceed with caution. I would love to hear more comments from those that have tried the blend too! 🙂 I do get many Facebook messages and private emails from others who have had success with the blend. I hope that answers your questions, and I’m happy to answer any more.
Lakeya says
Hello, Thank you for this post! This post has really informed me a lot especially with this being new to me. My daughter started with vocal tics a couple of months ago and now is showing signs of motor tics. After reading your post and comments I ordered the blend and have been using it for about a week and a half. Unfortunately, since applying the blend her tics seem to have gotten worse and causes her body to jerk, but decreased the vocal tics. I don’t know if it’s to strong but once I stopped using it her body stopped jerking, but the vocal tics returned. So it seemed like we are back to square one but I’m not giving up on finding a blend for her.
Jennifer says
Hi Lakeya, thanks for reaching out. However, sorry to hear the news. Have you tried diffusing it instead of applying it directly on her? Possibly that option would work better? I’ve not had anyone share this specific issue, so I’m sorry I can’t be of more help. I wish you the best at finding a solution that works for her!!
Katie says
Hello. Thank you for this post. My daughter began showing signs of a shoulder tic a few months ago- that she does quite often, more when nervous. And just this week, on Jan 1st, started with strong facial tics. Eye blinking and mouth grimacing) What a way to start out the new year 🙁 I will order the few oils I’m missing and begin this treatment ASAP. I also read elderberry extract so we started that last night too. Thanks again <3

This has been a great post, thank you for sharing your story! My son is 12 and has been dealing with tics for about 3 years. The blinking and head rolling is so often and he hates it. I haven’t tried essential oils for it yet but since I’m not new to essential oils, I am excited that this could help. I have 10 ml roller bottles. How many drops of each oil that you recommend would I add to a roller bottle of this size?
Jennifer says
HI Susen, thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear about your little guy. Any amount will work, as long as it’s equal drops for each to create the blend. I hope this helps!!
Andi says
My son has had an issue with tics for years. A couple of years ago he began a vocal tic that was terrible. It caused him a lot of bullying in school. We tried everything and then I came across your site. We’ve been using these oils ever since and his vocal tic went away a couple of weeks after starting and so far hasn’t come back. His other tics got better too. They are not completely gone and come back off and on and are usually are worse when he’s stressed or nervous but the oils have definitely made a difference. We use essential oils for a variety of things now. Also I never told him why we started using the oils either. I just said they were to help boost his immune system and keep him healthy so it wasn’t a mind over body thing. Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
Jennifer says
Hi Andi, that’s so wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing your story as well. Wishing you continued success with the essential oils blend!
Ashley Parsons says
I have started using some oils and have found they are helpful. I haven’t really dug into the benefits yet, but I think I will soon!

I’m glad you found something that works for him. I use oils for everything. Love them.

Thanks for this post! I am constantly amazed at the endless ways to utilize essential oils. I’ve only recently started learning about essential oils, but I am totally hooked. Thanks for sharing!
Jake says
Please advise whether this can also work on adults. I am a 33-year old adult who suffer from mainly from motor tics which show heavily on the facial muscles. I also have the tongue smacking twitch which can be described as a vocal tic, I guess.I had throughout my life more verbal somewhat yelling type tics as well, but those come and go. All of the tics are primarily exacerbated by stress. Do you know if these essential oils will work on an adult who has had the tics for about 20-24 years or is this only for children?
Thank you!
Jennifer says
Hi Jake, thanks for your comment. We have only used this with our young son, so I can’t speak from experience on the blend working for an adult. Almost all of the people who have commented on the post are using it for their child as well. Because it’s a natural product (made from plants) it doesn’t hurt to try the blend. If you do, please come back and comment about the progress. I think others would be eager to hear if it works for adults.
Kimberly Flickinger says
I just started using essential oils, but this is good to know. Thank you for sharing.

Thank u for sharing and i cant wait to try this on my son (10 years old). Few questions: 1) how did u stumble across this combo of EOs 2)why lemon 3) if you use it daily do u notice skin sensitivity or sunburn ive read lemon can do that. Thx for ur help on this
Jennifer says
I found a youtube video a few years ago. It’s since been removed. He is fare skinned, but we haven’t noticed an issue with sunburns. It may be because we use it at night? I have heard about that possible sensitivity though.

Hey – thank you for this article. My niece was diagnosed with a tic disorder possibly exacerbated by vaccines…. would this blend help for this do you think? I wasn’t sure if the blend was more for neurologically based tics or not. I have Young Living and most of those oils right now. Please let me know.
Jennifer says
Hi Amy, thanks for your question, and so glad you found me! I think it’s definitely worth a shot. I receive a ton of feedback on the blend helping so many others, but I’ve not come across anyone who mentioned due to vaccines, so I can’t speak on that. I wish you the best with the blend and hope it helps!

Hi Jennifer! I have 2 granddaughters that I have been raising for almost 8 years now and the youngest who is almost 10 has had a rough case of Tourette’s for a about 2 years now! She has motor & verbal. And her sister just started); The youngest had been on many Meds for it and the 1 med hat worked she had to be taken off of due to extreme weight gain. Would you please let me know how much it would cost to get started! Thank you so very much for a glimpse of hope?? “DESPERATE GRANDMAMA”

If I wanted to put the carrier in with the blend how much would I do? Right now I’m putting carrier on and then the blend. I would like to mix but not sure how much!
Jennifer says
Hi Sherah, I do about 1/3 of the jar carrier then the rest blend.

Hi all- just wanted to add Epsom salt baths helped my son. When we forget to add salts to his bath his tics come back and reaffirm to us that the salts are working. I also use oils and will keep that combo in mind.

“Hi there, I just wanted to let you know that my son has ADHD and has been on a stimluant for most of his 1st grade year. It’s helped a lot, but he developed tics which I think were always there but the medicine brought them out. The tics were constant and were in clusters. He had 3 different verbal tics. So we went to the doctor and we were going to try another medication. I researched so much online for any other treatment and I came across your post on the essential oil recipe for tics. We have put putting it over his heart and feet at bedtime for 4 days and the tics are GONE. I am amazed. I just wanted to thank you personally. Thank you thank you!”
Winnie says
So good to know this. My 8-year-old son has developed verbal tic recently and he came across as rude while he is not able to control it. He told me his lips would curl and make the sound by unrolling it quickly like making a tight blow. Sometimes he ends up spitting. His first appointment with the doctor is in Nov and as his mum, i am desperate for solution. Thank you for sharing – it gives me hope.

hi Jennifer, Thanks for this article and the links. Not only did I order all of the products you suggested for decreasing motor tics, but I also signed up under your downline. I figured I might as well try it and if I am happy with it, introduce the products to other parents who are struggling with the same problems. My 12 year old has tics on and off since 5. Since he turned 11 they are a daily battle. I spend most of my spare time researching what to avoid (food coloring is a nightmare for him) and what to supplement. I feel like these poor kids are up for an epic battle. I pray that this concoction is a just what I have been missing! Thanks again. Love your site format by the way.
Blessings,
Cheryl

Thanks Cheryl for stopping by, sharing your story, and signing up. I do hope this blend gives your little guy relief. It has helped so many already! Best of luck!

Hi,
Thankyou so much for this site. Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
Just a quick question, could you mix magnesium oil into the mix as it has nerve tension relief properties, or would this be a bad idea. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Jennifer says
Hi Adam, thanks for your question. Hmmm I have never attempted that. I do know Magnesium is helpful for tics, however we’ve only tried the powder that you drink. Unfortunately my son was not a fan of the taste so we did not keep it up.
Sharon Freund says
Hi. My 15 year old son has ADD and Tourette’s Syndrome which he has had since age 12 or so. We are currently using a Natural Calm for the ADD which does help a bit, but I started looking into something that would help with the Tourettes and came across your list and had heard about the similar ones from someone else. Is it better to use the diffuser, say at night with all 7 together, or use the oils rubbed into the feet? And also do I rub all 7 into the feet every day? Does one work better than the other? Also is it best to use all the oils together or do one or two seem to work best? Thank you.
Sharon Freund says
Also how long will a bottle of the blend last?
Jennifer says
Each 5ml bottle has approx 90 drops, but you’ll be blending 10-15 drops into a roller ball for application. Our roller ball tends to last 1-2 months.
Sharon says
Thank you!
Jennifer says
Hi Sharon, thanks for your question. I don’t personally use the diffuser, but other readers have commented w/the success. You would put all 6 into the diffuser in the evening in your son’s room. Or you can put the blend with carrier oil in a roller ball and rub on feet, or over chest before bed. You want to use the blend together. 🙂

Jennifer,
My son is allergic to the smell of Lavender. Do you know if anyone has had success by leaving that one out?

Hi Teri, I have since tried the blend without Lavender and still found it effective.

Jennifer- this is a new world to me (both the essential oils and the tic) but my hubby is experiencing this and we will try anything!! I went online and see there is a valor and valor II. What is the difference? Which one do you use? I can’t tell how old this article is so I wasn’t sure if valor II was an updated better version and perhaps one that you now use? Any guidance is GREATLY appreciated.
Jennifer says
Hi Krista, thanks for reaching out! Sorry to hear about your husband. I certainly hope this blend will help him! I had Valor as an alternate when Peace and Calming was out of stock for some time, but it’s back!! So you’ll need the following: Cedarwood
Frankincense (or Sacred Frankincense)
Vetiver
Lavendar
Peace & Calming
Lemon
Esther says
Hi I am glad these are working for you. Another thing which may help is to supplement his diet with magnesium. Also to cut out exposure to chemicals like household cleaning products, scented candles chlorine etc and to look at his nutrition. Some people have had huge success by minimising sugar and cutting out any sweetners. Also diary and wheat. You can cut out stuff and then add it back in to find his triggers. Good luck.
Jennifer says
Thanks Esther! I’ve tried sneaking a magnesium powder in his drinks, but he always detects it and won’t drink it. :/ I also limit sugar in general.
Suzanne says
My son has suffered with motor and vocal tics for 5 years. I’d love to try this blend. He is having homeopathy at the moment but when this is finished I’d like to try this.
Julie says
Hi there, just wondering why you had chosen to put the drops in his heart/chest area. I know you mentioned the feet also. Just curious at your choice, I’m just asking Becuase I’m not familiar with all this stuff and wondering how to know the right areas of placement for the best results. Thanks
Jennifer says
HI Julie, thanks for your question. This post receives a lot of questions and I’ve answered it a few times in the comments. Here’s why: There are certain places on the body that are easier for the oils to absorb, like your feet, hands, temples, and over the heart. I hope that helps!
Alicia Hudgins says
I’m a little confused. I need to order peace and calming II and valor. But valor is not in stock anymore and they have come out with Valor II. It has frankinsense and vetiver in it. So do I still need to add those to the solution?
Jennifer says
Hi Alicia, thanks for your question. They have a special for the month of January where you can get the original Peace & Calming for FREE when you place an order of 300 pv’s. Here’s the link to all the freebies: https://www.youngliving.com/en_US/opportunity/promotions/january-kick-off-2017-promotion
If valor is out of stock, hopefully it won’t be for very long. You can check back and place another order (or wait until it’s in stock to complete your order). I’ve not tried Valor II with our blend, but the original Valor does have frank and we still combine that with P&C II as an alternative. I hope that helps!
Alicia says
I just signed up to be a member and bought all the ones on your list that weren’t in the starter kit. What does pv stand for and will I get pv points for the extra stuff I bought or should I have ordered it separately to get points?
Jennifer says
Hi Alicia, did you order through Young Living or on Amazon? I ask because I don’t see a new sign up via my link. If you click the link I replied with yesterday it breaks down the rewards. The PV is the number next to each product, once those add up to 100, 190 and so on, you can earn free products.

Hi there, thank you for this article… I see my son having some of these issue and I have hope form your story. I am a YL distributor and families with all of these oils. I do have a question though? Is there any changes you made to his diet and did you use chiropractic care??
Jennifer says
Hi Victoria, thanks for your question. He has been to a chiro, but not consistently. We’ve not made any changes to his diet. 🙂
Liz says
Thank you for this excellent information. I have a daughter with facial and head jerking tics and have been looking for a natural solution. I have blended all the oils but used P&CII without Valor. Young Living has been out of Valor and P&C for quite a while. Will the blend still be useful w/o the blue tansy component?
Jennifer says
Hi Liz! I think in my son’s case because he started with the full blend – that it’s not as effective, but it may work really well for someone trying it without blue tansy. I definitely recommend giving it a try, and maybe trying more than 1 application a day. I can’t wait for those items to be back in stock!! 🙂 Wishing you the best of luck. Lmk how it goes.

Jennifer says
Hi Jessica – so glad you found this post. Hmmm. No we have not experienced that. Are you doing 1 application a day? Possibly try it in a different location, like the bottom of his feet. I hope this helps!!
jessica Bowe says
no actually a couple times a day. do you think it’s too much? I cant see why it would have a negative effect?
Jennifer says
No I can’t see that have a negative effect either. Where are you applying it?

hi . i think it is a Herx reaction
Abby says
Hi, I am so new to oils, so i dont understand a ton, but they are all out of vetiever, and the valor. My son has struggled with his tics since he was 4 (he is 8 now) and we’ve tried so many things, im happy to drop the 200+ to try this, but will it work without those two oils? Thanks for this post, I am really excited to try this!!
Jennifer says
Hi Abby! I know the vetiver just sold out yesterday, but it should be back soon. The Valor/Peace & Calming has been out for some time because the plant used is only grown during certain seasons. I’ve been told that it should be back soon! I recommend purchasing the other items now, and grabbing those out of stock’s once available. It is totally up to you whether you want to begin w/the blend minus those 2, or wait it out. My son is also 8 now, and the blend is not the same without them. I can’t wait for them to return.
Fred says

I wanted to share a new essential oil blend that I started using just 24 hours ago on my 22 year old daughter. She used it 6 times in a roller bottle and rolled it across her wrists several times. The oils are from Young Living. It is described as useful for children and adults that may experience ADHD and anxiety.
50 drops Lavendar
35 drops Valor
30 drops Stress Away
15 drops Patchouli
15 drops Veviter
40 drops V-6 or any carrier oil. Put in a 15 ml bottle. Says to apply to feet or wrists as needed.
I would highly suggest purchasing the V-6 carrier oil. It has been great.
Nan Davis says
The tics have slowed down dramatically!
tracy says
Where was you able to get the valor from? I haven’t been able to get any for several months due to being out of stock.
Jennifer says
I know it’s only available certain times of year because that plant doesn’t grow year-round. I believe it should return in fall/winter – so stock up! 🙂
Tracy says
Can you use this twice a day ? I have been using it at night on my son but no relief yet
Jennifer says
Hi Tracy – yes or try a different location, like on the bottoms of his feet, or behind his neck. Sometimes different areas work better. You can also try diffusing the blend throughout the night for a longer effect.
Tracy says
Ok Thanks Jennifer. I will try his feet and see how that works. He had a blinking tic and this recipe worked after about 3 weeks but now has developed a neck and head movement tic with a sound sort of like a grunt/squeak (hard to explain). Hoping changing of area will help
Nan Davis says
We started doing the oils in the diffuser.. It has made a world of difference. Applying the oils topically didn’t help 🙂 Good luck
Tracy says
Thanks Nan
Lins says
That is great! What is your routine here and how many drops are you putting in the diffuser?
Nan Davis says
We have been using 9 to 18 drops, depending on the severity of the tics. We have also been journaling and found that the tics are worse during her menstrual cycle. Not sure what avenue we’ll go down now to help slow the tics during her cycle. The oils don’t seem to help much for that week.
Crystal says
Hello so after reading that it takes quite some time for the oils to start working I bought calcium&magnisium vitamins instead!Theres days where he won’t tic at all&other days he will but not anywhere as persistent as when he started. Then of course there’s days where it’s just bad but ny as often….I am happy this has helped my 8 year old son.I hope you all find a way to help your lil ones God bless
Lins says
Hello, so thrilled to have found your blog, our daughter is 8 and just recently started with some facial tics. We are not new to oils and have used them for some time for other things so this is awesome! We are starting the blend tonight, praying to find some relief for her.
Do I understand that you are now mixing the carrier with the blend or are you still rubbing it on first?
Also we don’t have a roller right now so will just have to use the dropper and rub it in, hopefully this will be as affective as just letting it absorb on it’s own.
Thanks lins
Jennifer says
Hi Lins, thanks for your question – and I’m so glad you found us too! Yes, I am mixing the carrier oil into the blend before rolling it on. A dropper works well too! That’s what we started with and saw great results. The rollerball just became an easier application over time. 🙂 Best of luck!!
Lins says
Okay great! I do plan on getting a rollerball. Another question I had, when using a rollerball how many swipes are you doing, how do you know what is the equivalent to 1 drop?
It seems like I tend to put on way to much when using a rollerball.
Thanks again!
Jennifer says
I roll it around twice, maybe 3 times, I would say. 🙂
Lins says
Thank you so much! God bless you and your family for having a willing heart to share and help others.

I’m going to discuss this with her. Hopefully we can change lifestyles for the young couple. Blessings!

I’m planning to try this with my son. I’m wondering, do you think the blend would work any differently using Peace and Calming II (since Peace and Calming is currently out of stock)?

I just wanted to stop by and say that this blend has made my 8yo daughter’s motor tics completely disappear! She has had them for 3 years and the medicine prescribed didn’t work. Thank you! I will be sharing this with the NP who monitored her ADHD/tic medication (that she’s no longer taking). She was skeptical but surprised and willing to look into it for other kids! And sharing with friends and social media. I’m so THANKFUL- praising God for leading us here!
Also, I used do Terra’s balance blend in place of peace and calming (b/c that’s what I had on hand and I couldn’t wait to start it 🙂 and it (obviously) has worked too. I put the drops in a roller bottle with avocado oil as a carrier oil. Olive works well too. Thank you!
Jennifer says
Hi Erin – that’s the most wonderful news!! Thanks for sharing this update about your daughter and the blend. How great you were able to substitute P&C from Young Living with a do Terra blend and it still worked. That’s amazing information! Congrats on the progress and best of luck!!

Thank you for your story! As a mother it’s hard to see your children go through anything like this.My 8 year old son started with a eye tick two weeks ago….I have seen multiple doctors who could careless or say rude things like “I’m sure all the doctors you have seen have laughed at you” because it’s nothing serious. He doesn’t mind his tic but it does bother when he’s trying to focus in school or jiu jitsu.I do not want him on medication it’s not appropriate for a kid his age, plus they say it’s for his ADHD but I’ve heard it can make tics worse.I feel that no one cares about this like I do&it frustrates me when adults question my son on why he “blinks too much”.I shouldn’t have to explain to the world what I know&that they shouldn’t ask him that question because it just makes it worse.I will now try your oil blend,God knows why things happen&only he can help me get through this.I hope your son is great!God bless

Hi Crystal, thanks for sharing your story as well. I can completely relate. I hope you have much success with the blend – and keep staying positive. 🙂
Chelle says
Thank you for sharing! My daughter has not been diagnosed but I have noticed facial tics for several years. They always change and seem to get worse over the years. This week she started one that is difficult to explain, blinking eyes and jaw. It embarrasses and hurts her. It embarrasses me too. I feel so bad for her. She will be starting a new school next month. It’s a huge change, going from homeschooling to a public high school everyday. She already has a difficult time making friends and I’m so afraid this very noticeable tic will keep her from making friends and also cause her problems in the play she is in now. Do we ever stop worrying about our kids? I’m so hoping this blend will help. I have everything but vetiver and Peace and Calming, which I just ordered today. I’ve also researched and saw to take magnesium and vitamin b complex. I’m so desperate!
Jennifer says
I agree – I don’t think we ever stop worrying Chelle! Glad to know this article could give you some hope. Wishing you all the best!
Chelle says
Just wanted to come back and say we have been doing this and taking magnesium and vitamin b complex and I have seen it lessen SO MUCH! Yesterday was the first day back to school. She was understandably nervous but her facial tics were not as bad as usual. I can tell when she forgets to take the medicine/oils. So just wanted to share that testimony with everyone who reads this that it is worth trying!

I wish there was a date on my original comment. Today is 5-10-17. I made a 10ml roller bottle at the beginning of the school year and it is just now running out. I really want to tell everyone this has helped tremendously! I do not know the exact amounts I used at the beginning of the year, so I wanted to document what I did this time. I put 10 drops of each oil in a 10ml bottle and filled the rest up with fractionated coconut oil. My daughter puts it on every morning before school.
Jennifer says
Thanks so much Chelle for providing an update. I’m thrilled to hear it’s working so well for your daughter!! Blessing to you and yours. 🙂

Hi Jennifer, thank you for sharing your story! My daughter just turned 10 and has been dealing with motor and vocal tics for a little over a year now. Long story short, after keeping a very strict food journal I realized that if we eat 100% organic she is tic free. But this is very hard to do as kids in school offer her food all the time or sometimes we miss ingredients that are listed (even though we buy organic food, 5% of the ingredients are allowed to be non organic). I would really like to try these oils as they might lessen her reactions when we do have slip ups. So I was wondering if these oils are organic?
Lynn
Jennifer says
Hi Lynn – what great information! All of the essential oils are natural plant/tree based so I would consider them to be, yes.
Lynn says
Great! Thank you for the quick response. I am going to give these a try. When she does eat something non organic her reactions can last 10 days or so.
justjulee13 says
I was never formally diagnosed, probably because my parents didn’t perceive it as a major problem and it really had no impact on my ability to function in school and social events, but I have had tic symptoms all my life. I remember, as a child, that I had ongoing mild periods of throat grunt vocalizations, eye blinking, and head twitches. They would come and go, and never in combination. The only one that has stayed with me is the head twitches. I am now 62 and retired from 35 years of teaching 6th grade in May 2015.
I just started using essential oils this February. After much extensive research, my company-of-choice is Plant Therapy. I just noticed they have a blend called Let It Go. It has the same oil composition as Peace and Calming.
I was so thrilled to find this post and am acquiring the Let it Go today. I have the other oils for the full blend already. I am looking forward to trying this to see if it will work for my situation. I also plan to increase my magnesium as well.
Natural relief from these twitches would be a blessing! I am so glad that you found something that works for your son, and so very grateful you are sharing it. Thank you!

My 7 year old has had tics for about 1.5 years on and off, but in recent months they don’t go away. Blinking, mouth stretching, and throat clearing currently. This special multiviatmin used to work well, but now he needs more. I had tics when I was young, but not like this. I had neck twitch and severe lip licking as a kid a handful of times. Never had a tic again until 28, with eye blinking, mainly left eye. Its funny cause I also had TMJ in left eye, and left neck pain. Is it just a Tic or do I have other issues… Anyways I’m ordering this for me and my 7 year old. Me having tics as an adult sucks, but with a family to take of I try not to let it bother me, but to see one of my sons with it kills me. I also suspect after a lot of online reading tonight that he may have PANDAS, but not as severe as some kids. Mainly cause he never had tics until after multiple strep throat infections. I’ve been watching his diet as best as I can and give him certain supplements that help with PANDAS already so hopefully I’m on the right track. I will do more.
Thanks for posting this. I will try!!!
Jennifer says
Hi Glenn, thanks for sharing your story. It is heartbreaking to watch your child go through something, I totally agree. It sounds like you’re doing all the right things. Keep up the research – it’s great to be well informed. I wish you and your son much success w/the blend.
Mia says
Hi there. Thank you for sharing your story! I don’t have P&C. Is there another oil I can use in lieu of that one?
B says
Something that was very interesting to me was the pain from the tic that you mentioned. That is something that a lot of people don’t think about when they think about Tourette’s. I currently have a tic that causes my chest to be in a lot of discomfort because of the way I am moving it. I can’t wait to try this and see how it may alleviate this tic and therefore my pain and discomfort. I’ll check back in!
Jennifer says
Thanks B for sharing your story. 🙂 Wishing you much success with the blend!
Margie says
Hi! Just found your site. Great info! I wanted to purchase the EO from YL but the peace & calm blend is out of stock and ETA is undetermined. Is the P&C II a good substitute? Thanks for all you do!
Jennifer says
Hi Margie, thanks for your question. Yes the P&C II works fine as well. We recently ran out and had to use that substitute as well. 🙂
Margie says
I will try the P&C II. Thanks for the quick response!
Jennifer says
You are so welcome!

I started using the blend a few months ago over my heart every night (one drop) when I noticed that my breasts became swollen and painful, especially the left side (over the heart) which started leaking a clear fluid (I’m 51 y/o). I wasn’t sure if it was the EO blend but I decided to switch the application to the soles of my feet. After a couple of weeks the right breast began leaking as well. Not knowing what it could be, I went to my doctor & had tests done. My prolactin levels were high explaining the leaking but no one could figure out the cause. Cancer was ruled out. I also gained 5 lbs that I could not get rid of, this with no change in my diet or exercise routine. My symptoms felt like premenstrual symptoms (hormone-related) except they never went away. A few months into using the EO blend, I went away on vacation. My EO bottle broke in transit so I wasn’t able to apply the blend nightly as I had been. During my trip, I noticed the swelling of my breasts went down & by the time I returned home, I had lost most of the weight. I stopped using the blend altogether and my symptoms finally, completely went away. I never noticed a difference in my tics while using the blend so I decided not to use the blend again.
Jennifer says
Margie – I’ve never heard of such a side effect. How strange! Can you tell me what brand you were using? Were they all from YL? And did you contact the company with your concerns? Possibly there’s a medication or vitamin you’re taking that interfered. I make it clear in the post that this is not a cure by any means, but something that effectively worked w/my son. I’m sorry to hear about your results.
Buckeyemama says
Hi jennifer
A couple of questions – your article references a video – can you share the link to the video?
Also, how long did it take for you to notice an improvement in your sons tics? I am dealing with a situation with my 12 year old daughter who recently started Demi starting motor facial tics…trying a few things – gluten elimination, magnesium, vitamin B6 and probiotic supplements – trying to focus on natural” remedies – but trying desperately to find something that will help her get to a better state! Willing to try this but interested in the above questions. Thanks for sharing and hoping your don is still doing well with this treatment.
Jennifer says
Hi there, thanks for reaching out. The video is no longer on youtube. I think because of the language it used by saying things like “it cured xx” and the trade commission frowns upon wording like that. In the post I mention that it took probably 2 months before I recognized the tics had dissipated. We just really didn’t think it was possible. I also agree with a natural approach and think you should absolutely try all the other things mentioned. We often add a probiotic to his diet (recently within the last few months), and the magnesium we tried for a short while, but it was a powder form and he hated it. Wishing you much success and let me know what you find works!
Heather Weston says
With the mixture of these essential oils (equal parts) does this also mean equal parts oil? I want to try a mixture in a roller, but not sure how much oil to add with the 6 blended oils. Thank you for your post, I’m excited to try this.
Jennifer says
Hi Heather, thanks for the question! I do 1 part carrier oil to the 6 oils in the blend. So if you do…say 10 drops of each oil, then you’ll add 10 drops of the carrier oil to the blend as well. Hope that helps! 🙂

Thank you for this information; I will be giving this a try. My son was diagnosed with an epilepsy condition last October, after having his first seizure the night before his 7th birthday. After some bad side effects with the prescribed medication, I threw it out, did some research, and started treating him with Frankincense oil every night. We have been seizure free for almost 4 months now. Earlier this month, the tic began as a jerking of his arms, shoulders, and head. Some days it is severe enough to interfere with his normal activities, and it is hard for us to watch. I will be so happy if this can give him some relief. Thanks again for sharing your journey and what has worked for your family.
Jennifer says
Hi Faith, wow – thanks for sharing your story. What a blessing to find the Frank helping your son with his seizures, that’s amazing! I wish you the best of luck with the blend. Let me know how it goes. 🙂

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that I stumbled across your page when I googled “essential oils for motor tics”. I’m a 31 year old suffering from tics in my hands and neck for as long as I can remember. Doctors have always told me that there’s nothing that can be done except eliminate stress…yeah right! Haha. Anyways, I know your post is intended for little guys but I’m anxious to go home and try this for myself. Here’s to hoping for relief!!! Thank you for your encouraging post!!!
Jennifer says
Hi Christina, thanks for reaching out. It’s frustrating that there isn’t a cure, but the essential oils have helped in our case and some others whom have commented below. I wish you the best of luck with the blend and hope you’re able to find some relief.
Robin Moody says
I just received all the oils and going to try this… My son has been suffering with tics for the past 5 years. He is currently 12. They definitely come and go .. but as mom I worry so much for him. I pray this is a solution for us!!
Jennifer says
That’s great Robin! Wishing you and your son some peace of mind. Let me know how it goes!
Alex says
Thank you for sharing your story we’re going through the same situation and we’re happy to have some new knowledge and we’re going to try this. My wife has tried different approach like using Reiki to help our son to relax we’re also avoiding anything that has corn in it. Since it cause tics to spike up. Again thank you for giving us a a new approach to help him highly appreciated.
Jennifer says
You are so welcome Alex and wishing you the best of luck!
Julie Chesney says
Hi! My 16 year old son received a concussion a couple months ago and is being treated by a concussion specialist that says he’s healing normally. Unfortunately from the stress of getting better and keeping up with his schoolwork a tic was triggered. I also have tic’s that become worse with stress so I wasn’t surprised. The tic he developed is life altering and has kept him out of school for almost three weeks. My son constantly gags and in the beginning had issues with reflux after he ate no matter what it was. My son has been seen by GI and an endoscopy was done just to be on the safe side since his problem was so severe. My son has been put in medication to get the tic under control but from personal experience I know this can take time. I started using essential oils a few months ago to help my daughter with sleeping and they’ve worked so I’m looking for something to help my son. I’ve been searching for a couple of days and I stumbled upon your post on Pinterest this morning and was so excited to see all the positive results people have had with your recipe. I watch my son suffer all day long and can see the mental anguish this is causing him so I’m praying this will help even if it’s only a little. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this recipe and hopefully giving my son a little bit of his life back.
Jennifer says
Hi Julie, thanks so much for sharing your story. I’m so sorry to hear of your son’s condition – heartbreaking! I certainly hope this blend can help in some way. Keep me posted and best of luck!
Leslie Watts says
If you have an adult child, 20, is the blend the same
Jennifer says
Yes, same blend, but you may need to apply it more than 1x per day. You’ll have to test it out and see. 🙂

My 21 year old daughter was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome 7 years ago. She began an Abilify/Prozac cocktail at the time of the diagnosis. The combination was a god send at the time, it took the annoying, debilitating tics totally away. She has been struggling for over a year now with the tics returning FULL FORCE. She has been seen at the Clinical Neurosciences Center movement disorder clinic at the University of Utah. She has found zero relief. She has been receiving acupuncture for almost a year and recently she has added hypnotherapy. She opted to discontinue the Abilify in January after suffering some permanent side effects. Needless to say the tics are out of control. Can you tell me how long after starting the use of the oils that you saw improvement? I am purchasing the oils from a friend locally and look forward to seeing if they help. We are desperate!
Jennifer says
Hi Nan, thanks for your comment. It sounds like you guys have tried a lot of options to reduce the tics. I’m so sorry the results are not working for your daughter. I really hope this blend can make a difference for her. I mentioned above that we had little faith that the oils would make a difference, but were willing to give them a try. After continued use for several weeks (probably 2 months) I happened to look over at my son and saw his body still. I observed him for a long time, then asked my husband for his opinion. That’s when we realized it. It was a complete shock to us and we are so grateful to have found something that works for him.
Nan Davis says
We have hit a month of using the essential oil combination with no results yet. I remain hopeful we will see some easing in the next few weeks. I am going to have her change to applying the blend on the bottoms of her feet and increase to morning and night, she has only been applying at night and over her heart. Keep your fingers crossed as she is out of options if the oil blend doesn’t help. ?
Jennifer says
Bummer. Absolutely – change it up and see if twice a day and a different location works. I will keep her in my prayers.
Nan Davis says
I was wondering if I I am using the essential combo correctly. I mixed even amounts of each of the oils and then I just drop with a dropper onto my daughters skin. I just started using a dab of coconut oil on her skin first than add the drop of oils. I wondered too if since she’s older if she might need more drops and how many times a day could the oils be used?
Carolyn says
what kind of blood work have you done? We found that our son has a gluten sensitivity and removing gluten greatly reduced his tics. Have you ever done a trial of Benadryl or Motrin to see if that has any impact? That could give you some insight to see if the tics are possibly due to inflammation or histamines. Just a thought. Hopefully the blend is working for your daughter.
Nan Davis says
She has had blood tests and she has no gluten allergy. I have been giving her Benadryl for a week at night and haven’t seen any slow down of the tics. She gave up using the blend after a couple of months. The tics are really bad right now?
Buckeyemama says
Nan – I have not researched this myself yet, but with my daughter growing into puberty, I have wondered if her hormonal changes could be causing her tics, and have begun keeping a log of the frequency and severity of her rice to see if any of it aligns to her monthly cycle )which itself is not yet regular) ..have you considered this and curious if you notice any difference throughout the month? random question on my own mind with my daughter.
Nan Davis says
Thank you for contacting me, I am always happy to talk with others. My hope is to one day find that MIRACLE that helps decrease the tics. I talked with my daughter after reading your question. She says 100% her menstrual cycle causes the tics to get worse. I have watched her a little closer this cycle and too can see the tics are worse. I will pay attention to the severity once she is done with this cycle.
I have talked her into trying the essential oils again. We started a regiment of oils, magnesium oil and oral along with a multivitamin. It has only been a few days so it’s too early to see any change. She also decided to give acupuncture another try, so she has had one session.
Believe me she would be willing to give anything a try except prescription drugs. She is finally free of the side effects of being on Abilify for 8 years! She was also taken off Prozac and it was replaced with Zoloft. The change in antidepressants is just been in the last two weeks, I see an improvement in her mood and general well being but the tics are off the charts. It’s so discouraging watching her suffer.
Buckeyemama says
Nan, wondering if you have tried magnesium, vitamin B6 and probiotic supplements? I believe they have helped with my daughter…also minimized gluten in her diet – her tics are not 100 percent resolved, and I am still looking for anything additional to help, but I do believe it is definitely better than it had been.
Nan Davis says
I will try the magnesium and vitamin B6. We have tried probiotics in the past but didn’t see much of a change. I would like to try the essential oils again since she is suffering so many tics currently but she is 22 years old and has to be on board. I know a lot of it depends on ATTITUDE and POSITIVE thinking, she is struggling with being either of those right now. I wish I could secretly apply it at night while she was asleep and see if the blend helped. ?
Jennifer says
Nan, you are such a good mom! Keep up the great work. I don’t have a girl, so I can’t comment on the puberty/hormones, but keep trying! You could try using a diffuser with the blend and have it in her room over night. That would allow for a longer absorption of the oils over a period of time. Maybe that would help?
Sophia says
Hi- since the peace and calming has been out of stock, is there an alternative that you have used?
Jennifer says
I know – such a bummer! I just ordered Peace & Calming II in it’s place.
Wendy says
I use the comparable blend from doTerra and it’s been working great.
F says
What is comparable with Peace and Calm amongst doTerra? Thank you!
Jennifer says
I’m unsure – you’d have to inquire w/a doTerra representative. I think there’s a few readers who have used the blend w/doTerra products, but I’m unsure what they used.
Wendy says
If you go to the Rocky Mountain Oils page, they have a “compare our blends” section that provides their blends and the comparable Young Living and doTerra blends. That’s where I found the info. Hope that helps!
L says
Hi – I was looking into the blend you recommended above, but seems like peace and calming is out of stock. Any idea if there is another similar oil that can be used instead?
Jennifer says
I’m hoping the Peace & Calming II will be just as effective. I had to order that myself. Hopefully the regular P&C will be back in stock soon!
Julie Zerilli says
I am surprised nobody has mentioned PANDAS in the comments. My daughter suffers from PANDAs which includes tics and anxiety. I just started on a regiment of these oils and hope it helps! I am also diffusing them in her room along with Epson’s Salt baths. Many of you who have tics may be suffering from Pandas…google it, it is pretty interesting!
Jennifer says
Thanks Julie – I’m not familiar with it, as we have the tourette’s gene in our family. But this may very well be something others can consider for their tics. 🙂 Good luck on the blend!!
Kim says
My son has PANS. He had a tic where he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth almost constantly. I took him to a naturopath who tested him using their techniques. He has Lyme Disease and co-infections. We are only 27 days into treatment for Lyme, and his tics and other things are disappearing or greatly diminished. Treatment will take approximately 6 months. Another friend used the same naturopath for her son who had been dx as Tourettes, Bipolar, ADD, BPD, etc. Now he no longer qualifies for any of his dx. I think every kid with PANDAS / PANS should test to find out their Lyme status. Lyme can also cause seizures, Tourettes, Autism, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Mitochondrial Dysfunction, etc. It’s the great imitator…
Amy says
Kim-
My daughter also has PANDAS, however, we do suspect Lyme or a tick coinfection may be her issue. We are desperate and have been to many different docs both natural and conventional. We haven’t been able to find a dr that is able to eliminate her issues and was wondering what dr you are using. We are willing to travel. Thank you and God Bless!
Carol says
Which doctor did you and your friend use to test for Lyme or tick coinfection?
Erika Meng says
My daughter is 9 and has autism. She’s very high functioning and it’s very mild.Diagnosed very young. We did all the therapies we possibly could . She struggles with anxiety and has been diagnosed with it as well. About 6 months ago she started these vocal tics of grunting and squealing. They came out of nowhere . I have tried everything . Epsom salt baths, magnesium’s b6 and 12 , lavender. We recently took her to the doctor and I mentioned PANDAS and my doctor said no.. not enough evidence to believe it’s real. It’s very controversial from what I’ve been reading. She referred us to a neurologist and she was also against PANDAS. She said she thinks it’s provisional tic disorder and put her on Zoloft. She wants MRI genetic testing and Labs done. Anyone with answers or experiencing similar issues, please comment .
Candace says
My son also was diagnosed with PANDAS. He is 6. I will also be tying this blend . I’m yoir opinion does the brand of essential oils matter ? I thank you for this post and plan to update a success story as well ! Thanking God
Jennifer says
Hi Candace this is the only brand I have used. There’s a lot of knock-off brands out there. We’ve stuck w/what works for years. I know a few have tried other brands and not had the same success. Hope that helps.
Penny says
How much is the essential oil and where can I find in singapore?
Jennifer says
Hi Penny, I believe YL ships to Singapore. Create and account and follow the steps to add the items to your cart. I’m not sure what the price would be for your country, so I don’t want to say the wrong amount.
Marie says
My 8 year old daughter has had on and off tics (ranging from eye blinking to breathing difficulties) for a couple of years and I tried increasing her magnesium and making sure she would get enough sleep, but they would still get worse when she was performing (she does professional productions) and/or under stress. Now that she is getting a break, I am going to make this blend tonight and start her tomorrow. Thank you so much for posting this, I hope it is the answer to my prayers!
Jennifer says
You are so welcome Marie! I hope the blend helps calm your little one’s tics. Best of luck!
Brenda says
Thank you so much for posting about this. We just realized that our 9 yo son has motor tics. We think he’s had minor ones for some time now but over the past month or so it’s the entire upper body including the neck jerking and nose sniffling. It’s especially bad when he is active playing basketball or baseball and it’s killing me that he has to get up everyday and deal with this. I had a few of these oils and ordered and received the other 3 I was missing and we are starting this tonight. Any idea how long it takes for it to start working?
Jennifer says
Wishing you the best of luck Brenda! We didn’t notice for weeks (but it was mainly because we were skeptical). 🙂 Others have reported quicker results.
Christi says
I just want to thank you for this post! Myself and my sons father both have tourettes, so when my 3 year old son started developing tics we searched for alternative treatments, & I stubbled upon this article. My son has been tic free for months now!! It WORKS!! It was even more obvious when we forgot it on vacation & the tics returned, only to go away again once we got home to his roller. Like your son, our son accepts it as part of his bedtime routine as well. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this. From one Tourettes mom to another, YOU ROCK!!
Jennifer says
Hi Christi-thanks so much for sharing your story. I’m so very happy to hear the blend is successfully working for your son. Take care!!
Lori Larimore says
Thank you this is working. I mixed it with pure coconut oil. We have developed a little bit of a rash, I do not want to discontinue. Any thoughts on what I should use or do you?
Jennifer says
Hi Lori, hmm it may be that you’re not using enough coconut oil? Everyone’s skin has different sensitivities. I would recommend applying a bit more coconut oil before adding the blend. Hopefully that will resolve the issue. Good luck!!
Jennifer says
I also found this helpful from the Young Living site: If a rash occurs this may be a sign of detoxification; drink adequate water to encourage the release and removal of body toxins. Toxins present in petrochemical based soaps and skin care products, detergents and perfumes may trigger some of the detoxification reactions. Consider discontinuation of these agents if a reaction occurs. Before using the EO again, perform a patch test and dilute with carrier oil as needed.
Chelle Greene says
Some people are allergic to coconut oil. I would try another oil like almond or jojoba.
Lindsay says
First off, I have to say THANK YOU so much for suggesting these essential oils because for the last 5 days, my 7 yr old son has about stopped with his motor tics. For the last 3 years, he has gone through numerous tics including shoulder shrugging, sniffing, snorting, punching the air with both fists, rolling his eyes, blinking his eyes repeatedly, and now more recently looking to the side with his eyes and patting his legs and side. These tics come out when he is stressed, not enough sleep, and when I give him too much screen time on the iPad, phone, or tv. I was at my wits end, and close to getting a neurology referral to put him on medication, but my husband said he was not going to allow our son to be “doped up.” I googled motor tics and essential oils, and this very informative blog came up. I had some oils on hand from RMO that I purchased six months ago, and I had some gifted do terra oils I received for Christmas, and just mixed everything together, and voila!!! I have tears in my eyes I’m so happy! When he came home from school the other day, he was not doing any of the tics. I placed the oils directly to his heart and bottoms of his feet before bedtime, and I diffuse it in his room with the door closed. My husband and I are shocked, because in the last year alone, I have tried vitamins, strict and consistent diet changes, and ignoring them hoping they would go away. So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I hope your blog reaches many more parents.
Jennifer says
Wow – what a wonderful relief for all of you! I am SO very happy to hear that the oil blend is working for your son. This alternative method really does work! 🙂 Keep up the great work and many blessings Lindsay!
Karla says
Hi Lindsay,
Is he in the room when you diffuse them? Also how many drops do use for this method? Thank you for sharing. I am so glad I came across this post as well. (4:19 am). I have been having a hard time sleeping and being in peace these last couple days because my son’s tics seem to be getting worse (this month a lone) and I do not want him to be medicated. I just feel so helpless.
Jennifer, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us.
Mona says
Hi Jennifer, this blog is a real lifesaver to me. I was so worried about tic. Your blog has helped me alot. Heartfelt Appreciation and thanks to you.
Jill says
Thank you Jennifer for all your information. I was researching the essential oils for my son who is 12 y/o who has ADD & motor tics (which wax & wane) but this most recent tic is pretty stubborn & very noticeable to all. For ADD (focusing & concentration) I was looking into Cedarwood, Vetivar & Lavendar which are also the oils used for the tics. Although you do add other oils to the 3 I mentioned, will your combination also help ADD symptoms or would I have to use the 3 oils above separately to help with ADD? Thank you.
Jennifer says
Hi Jill, thanks for reaching out. I have to preface with – “These statements have not been evaluated by the food and drug administration”. I’ve had other readers email me about anxiety and other conditions in the same “family” sharing that this blend has also helped in those categories. I would encourage you to use the entire oil blend listed simultaneously for similar results – no need to use the 3 others separately. I hope that answers your question, and I wish your son much success! 🙂
Jill says
Thank you, I will try it. I am just not educated yet on how to combine the oils, this helps.
Jennifer says
Not a problem. That’s why I wrote the post, so others can learn and hopefully have the same results. 🙂
Priscilla says
Do you need to combine these oils with coconut oil or anything before applying it to the skin or are all these oils safe to apply directly? Thank you!
Jennifer says
Hi Priscilla – it’s recommended that you use a carrier oil. We use vegetable oil, but coconut oil works well also!
Priscilla says
Thank you!!! How much of the carrier oil do you use when combining? I see you use a round 15 drops of the essential oils. Also, is there a specific reason you apply above the heart? Can you apply on the bottom of feet to get the same results? Sorry for all the questions. My 8 year old daughter has developed a little tic that comes and goes and I would like to try the essential oils with her for this. I have most of the oils already.
Jennifer says
No worries. I keep the carrier oil separate and apply one drop before the doing the blend. It was recommended to apply over the heart because it was easy to absorb, however if you notice a comment from another reader, she chose to apply to the feet and that’s working really well for her child. 🙂
Wendy says
I put 2-3 drops carrier oil per foot and one drop of the blend on the bottom of each foot. Then I massage it for 30 seconds and put socks on her. I was told your body absorbs 80% more if you massage for 30 seconds – not sure if that’s true but it works for us.
Jennifer says
Interesting Wendy, thanks for sharing! 🙂
Mik says
Hi Wendy, just to check, when you massage the foot, do you massage the whole foot or any specific part of the food that I should be targeting as I would like to try massaging the blend my boy’s foot as well.
VIcki Thomas says
Hi Jennifer, my grandson is 7 yrs old just diagnosed w Tourette’s. I am feeling so overwhelmed with this! My son is in denial about the Tourette’s. They are going for a counseling for the family. I watch my grandson often but he swears so bad and only does it w me.
Will these essentials help him w this? His mom is into essential oils. I will forward your info to her. Life as it is means you can’t trust anyone anymore:(! Thank you Vicki Thomas
Jennifer says
Hi Vicki, thanks for reaching out. Definitely forward this post to her. She can read through all of the comments of other families this blend has helped. I’ve provided a video on how to mix the blend and use it. I hope this helps!
Wendy says
I wanted to thank you. I have Tourettes Syndrome and have had tics and compulsions since I can remember. I’ve learned to live with them and have done my best to ignore them (I hide them well). However, when my 9-year old daughter started having motor and verbal tics, I panicked. It’s one thing to deal with something on your own and another thing entirely to watch your child go through it. I jumped into action to find things that might diminish the tics. We tried a low-grade drug on the advice of the neurologist, but when it turned out she was allergic, I wasn’t willing to change her to a stronger medication (the low-grade one made her a zombie). So I ordered the essential oils for this blend and started using a drop each night on the bottom of each foot (with a carrier oil) and noticed a big difference within a few weeks. Then I changed to putting the drops on every morning and the change was even more dramatic! Most of her more-noticeable tics have disappeared with only a few less-noticeable ones left behind! I’m beyond thrilled and SO thankful I found your article! Thank you SO, SO much!!
On a side note, I didn’t tell my daughter what the oils were for until a few days ago. I didn’t want to question whether the results were partly psychological. I only told her they were to help her relax and sleep. So I know the results we’ve seen are truly due to the oils.
Jennifer says
Wendy – this is such wonderful news. I am SO SO happy to hear this! This is why I wrote the post! I still haven’t told my son why he gets the oils, other than “it’s to calm you.” 🙂
Karla says
This comment brought tears to my eyes. I feel I came to the right place. Thank you, both of you. I have been feeling so scare and lost.
Tiffany L says
Regarding the roller bottle that you use now, do you just swipe once over the heart and rub in? Do you still put the carrier oil on first?
Cam says
I have a 7 year old son that has been dealing with similar tics for the past couple of years. I am anxious to try your blend. Can you blend all oils and carrier into a roller and apply all at the same time? I’ve never applied the carrier first, then the EO. I’ve always cut the EO with the carrier.
Thank you!
Jennifer says
Yes – I’m sure that will work all the same. I’ve just always had them separated. 🙂
angie says
I am 39 and have extreme eye blinking which is getting worse everyday along with other random tics.. looking for a natural remedy as I don’t want to go back on medication… However I don’t know anything about oils… why do you rub it over the heart? And should I do more than 1 drop per day since I am obviously a lot bigger than your little boy?
Thank you for any advice 🙂
Jennifer says
Hi Angie, thanks for your questions. There are certain places on the body that are easier for the oils to absorb, like your feet, hands, temples, and over the heart. As for the amount of drops, it’s completely up to you. You can start out with 1 drop and if you don’t see any significant changes within a month or so, try upping it to 2 drops per day. Wishing you the best of luck with a natural remedy!
Brenda says
I want to make this for a friends daughter that’s 18. Is there a reason you don’t mix it all in a roller ball bottle with the carrier oil? With her add I want to make this as simple as possible.
Jennifer says
That method should work just as well Brenda.

Thank you so much for writing about this. I saved your article and keep coming back to it because it feels good to reread it and read the new comments. My son is now 12 but he started getting tics at age 6. It started with the eye roll, then as he got older there were different things, like the need to fix his shirt, then a head roll and now he starts making squeaky noises. Sometimes he’s ok with it but tonight he started crying because the vocal tic was too much for him. The blend helped with his motor tics so I’m hoping it’ll help with the vocal tics. But I’ll be more consistent and apply it even when the tics go away.
Nan Davis says
Hi Brenda, has your friends daughter seen any positive results? My daughter is 22 years old and I’m hoping we will see some results.
Thanks!
Jen says
How long to see a difference? My son has tics…..mostly his head and shoulders and nothing I have done has worked. I have been using this blend for a month and no difference. I’m getting so discouraged. Did it take a long time to see it working? I have tried several applications a day.
Jennifer says
Hi Jen, thanks for reaching out. I wanted to confirm you are using the YL oils and not another brand, as I can only speak from our personal experience with young living. It took several weeks for us to see a difference. Have you tried diffusing it? Some readers have mentioned that was successful.
reluctantwordsmith says
Hi Jennifer. I am a YL member and just found out my sweet little nephew may have this syndrome. I am excited by your results. Can you tell me what number of drops of each oil you put in your blend? Thank you for sharing!!!
Jennifer says
HI there! Thanks for your comment. I put an equal number of 10 drops per essential oil, so a total of 60 drops. He gets one drop of the blend nightly and I apply it over his heart. I am soooo very happy to report that we’ve been using this blend for 1 full year and he’s still doing amazing!
Erica says
Thanks for sharing this! Put on my 8 year old daughter for the first time tonight. Do you have the link for the You Tube video you watched?
Jennifer says
Hi Erica – great! I hope it’s successful for her! I actually searched for it a few months ago and it’s been removed. 🙁
Erica says
Thank you!

We have to be very careful in how we describe the benefits of YL. I’m just glad this post is still up and that God led me to find it!
tara says
Has this helped with the parallels, such as the anxiety and ADHD?
Jennifer says
Hi Tara – thanks for your question. In my son’s case, yes I have seen some improvement in both of those, however the most improvement has been from the tics.

Hey jennifer. I would love to talk more about these oils…I have a 7 year old who too has a tic disorder and I am in need of a natural remedy. Is there Any way we can connect on FB?
Jennifer says
Sure you’re welcome to message me on the page here: https://www.facebook.com/MyBoysandTT I also have a contact me button on the blog if you would like to email me as well.
Claire says
Does the affect last all day or do you reapply any oils in the morning?
Jennifer says
I do not reapply – unless I notice he is anxious, which in turn causes a flare up. It’s very rare though, but has happened on a few occasions.
Erin Park says
Oh my gosh…this page has been a relief to me. My son is 5 and has the same facial, shoulder twitches, and even a grunting sound. The doctor put him on medication but I really do not think it is doing much and wants to put him on something stronger. I am so hesitate, so I have been doing research into using my essential oils to help him. Your story gives me hope that I may be able to help him. He knows he has them unfortunately, but they do not seem to bother him as much as they bother me. I hate to see him like that, I am going to try this blend. Quick question, you only apply it once a day?
Jennifer says
Hi Erin – thanks for your question and I’m so glad you are seeking other answers. That’s how I am – turning over every leaf! I only apply once a day. If there is a flare up, which is not common at all these days, then I will reapply. That maybe happens once every few months.
Erin Park says
Thank you so much. I order the oils I did not have and hopefully will get started next week. Have you done any research into food allergens?
Jennifer says
A good friend of mine brought that suggestion up to me. I haven’t yet, but it’s on my list.
justicedl42 says
I actually stopped one medicine they had my son on as I saw that a side effect could be tics and he started to get them that has been years ago and unfortunately he still has the eye movement tic. I can’t wait to try this. Thank you so much for sharing this. I am new to the oils and have been reading a lot and your post is the first I found about this and it is one of the things I’ve been looking for, can I ask how you can up with this? I want to help him and my daughters so much with different issues
Jennifer says
Hi Justice, I did research online just like you and came across another mom using this blend. That’s when I started trying YL essential oils. I am so grateful for finding that information as it’s working well for my son and his tics!
Erika says
So happy to find this. My son has been having vocal and physical tics since this past January. They come and go. Seems to be either stress, food intolerance or exhaustion. I just blended this and put it on him. I am praying it works for him! Thanks for sharing!!
Jennifer says
Wishing your little one the best of luck with this blend!
sylvia martinez says
Jennifer, I was reading your post on Tics Disorder and it is very helpful. Can you tell me how much of each of the oils you use to make this blend?
Jennifer says
Hi Sylvia – thanks for your question. I use equal parts for each essential oil. I typically put in 15 drops each, into the separate glass container. He then gets one drop of the blend each night.
Mik says
Hi Jennifer, my son recently also developed a tic. I would like to try your special blend. Just to clarify, you saw results from just applying the blend on your boy every night? do you also use a diffuser to diffuse your house and if so, what are the recommended scents you use which sees results?
Jennifer says
Hi, yes for several years now – just 1 application per night. Others have commented below that have used the diffuser with luck, but I prefer the application. The essential oils you need are included above, as well as a video to show you how to put the blend together.
Ashlee says
I am so glad I read this! We use the oils and I am trying to find the right blend for my son. He licks his lip to the point of total chapped ness and stretches his mouth, almost like an excited expression, non stop…more so when he is worked up about something. He is an extremely smart 9 yr old boy and these tics come and go, but this one has gone on the longest. I’m going to be whipping this blend up between breakfast and lunch packing tomorrow morning!
Jennifer says
Hi Ashlee – thanks for your comment. My son, too had that same tic for a few years, but we haven’t seen it at all recently. Wishing you much success w/the blend. It is still working great for my son and his tics. 🙂
Merrin Wright says
My son starting displaying tics at 4 years old. They seem to come and go depending upon his level of stress. He just started kindergarten and the tics are back in full force. I put Valor on the bottom of his feet this morning, hoping that would help. Glad I found your page. I have Frank, Lavendar, P&C, and Lemon at home. Will order Vetiver today. Eager to try this. Over the weekend, I was worried I started seeing some shoulder jerks! Up till now, we have mostly had facial tics (rabid blinking, yawning). He has done the throat clearing and sniffing as well. Thanks again for sharing!
Jennifer says
Hi Merrin – thanks for stopping by! Yes, that is common with anxiety and back to school. My son’s usually flares up a bit too, but I’m so thankful this blend is still working well for him. Don’t forget Cedarwood as well! And wishing your little guy the best of luck. 🙂
Erica Brooks says
I can’t wait to give this a try.
Jennifer says
Hi
My Son is 9 and has facial motor tics that come and go and change all the time. I’ve been looking for a blend for his tics. I have some of these oils but not all. My question is where do you find the carrier oil and what are the best ones to use?
Thanks
Jen
Jennifer says
Hi Jen – thanks for reaching out! We use coconut oil, but others prefer vegetable oil.
Shelby says
My son started his tics last Jan 30th. It started with eye blinking and a facial twitch. He now has a shoulder twitch. I notice it worse at night when he is tired or when he is anxious. Since I am the mom, I am hyper sensitive to his tics. I do not think he knows he has them all the time. I may have to try some oil to see if it can help calm him and the tics. Thanks for posting this.
Jennifer says
Yes, it sounds very similar to my son’s tics. The oils have been a success for us. Let me know if you have any questions I can help with, and wishing you and your son the best of luck!

hi, thanks for posting your story!!! Mine is very similar with my son who is 7. I have lots of oils and have been trying to figure out one (or more) that will work. So to confirm, you mixed equal parts of each of these oils in a bottle and apply one drop over his heart. But where does the carrier oil come in? Does that go into the bottle too or are you taking one drop of the blend with one drop of carrier oil? Thanks!!!
Jennifer H says
Hi Sarah – thanks for your question! It’s nice to hear from a fellow parent in my shoes. I apply the carrier oil first, just a dab on my finger, rub that on and then a drop of the combined blend. I think I will update the post so that’s more clear too. 🙂
Indu says
I didn’t realize that reading your post.I had made a carrier oil and the YL oils blend in a container and my son noticed a difference within a week!!! I can;t thank you enough for posting this. Very very grateful. Essential oils have worked for our family for over 10 years and I wouldn’t know how to take care of my son and myself without them – but this was extraordinary. I didn’t know that they can work sooooo fast over something my son has stuggled for the past 6 months with. So thank you, again, for sharing this.
Jennifer says
That’s amazing! So glad to hear it! 🙂
kp says
how often do you apply and do you do 1 drop of each or blend them all together and use 1 drop? thank you
Jennifer H says
Hi, Kp – thanks for your question. I apply once a night before bed. I’ve mixed equal drops of each oil into a glass jar and use a dropper to apply one drop a night.
kp says
thank you for your quick response and you apply over his hear? willing to try anything at this point 🙂
Jennifer H says
You are very welcome! Yes, a drop over his heart and I gently rub it in.
Jennifer says
Would the roller ball you have created be just so effective and dropping a drop over the heart ? Would I just rub the roller over his heart ? Which would you recommend?
Jennifer says
Either works. Rollerball or individually. I have done both.

Im so glad th is is working for him. I know its been a hard thing

I’m so happy for you that you’ve found something that is working. I know there must be so much relief in that fact alone.
Rebecca says
It is so awesome to see this approach to better living in your generation. You are not only improving your families overall health but you are also setting a standard of self awareness in the natural realm of this world for young minds. What you teach children today will become a natural part of their adult lives, providing a solid base for a happy and healthy lifestyle. This world needs more parents like you. 🙂 Thanks for sharing !

Thank you! 🙂

Hi. I have just read these comments and wondered if using in a diffuser while my son slept would be of any benefit?
Jennifer says
Hi there, I personally haven’t tried it but others have mentioned it’s been successful with the blend. 🙂

My cousin swears by this stuff! She uses it for her teething babies, congestion, and so many other uses. She is the same in using natural homeopathy remedies especially when this does work.
