It Ends With Us Movie Review
About the film: The first Colleen Hoover novel adapted for the big screen, the film tells the compelling story of Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), a woman who overcomes a traumatic childhood to embark on a new life in Boston and chase a lifelong dream of opening her own business. A chance meeting with charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni) sparks an intense connection, but as the two fall deeply in love, Lily begins to see sides of Ryle that remind her of her parents’ relationship. When Lily’s first love, Atlas Corrigan (Brandon Sklenar), suddenly reenters her life, her relationship with Ryle is upended, and Lily realizes she must learn to rely on her own strength to make an impossible choice for her future.
It Ends With Us brings an artistic view that really draws you in. As the narrative unfolds, flashbacks to Lily’s past provide a poignant backdrop, revealing the impact of her tumultuous upbringing. These scenes, featuring a younger Lily and her first love, Atlas Corrigan, add layers of emotional complexity.
One of the film’s strengths is its unflinching portrayal of domestic abuse and the difficult choices faced by those entangled in such relationships. Lively’s performance is especially noteworthy, capturing Lily’s strength and vulnerability as she grapples with her feelings for Ryle and her lingering connection to Atlas.
The soundtrack, featuring a mix of soulful and haunting tracks, enhances the emotional tone of It Ends With Us.
