Jersey Boys Musical Review
Showing at Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center
Go behind the music and inside the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons in the Tony Award®–winning true-life musical phenomenon, Jersey Boys. From the streets of New Jersey to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, this is the musical that’s just too good to be true. Featuring the legendary top-ten hits “Sherry”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Walk Like A Man”, “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You”, and “December, 1963 (Oh What A Night)”.
You can feel the electricity in the air as we await the show’s start! Harry’s barkeep, Alan, served our refreshments with such a pleasant and professional demeanor even though the line was long and we were probably his 100th customer of the evening, you would have never known. We are off to a great start! The smiles and anticipation are setting the tone for an amazing experience all around.
Act One opens with Rap that’s correct “Ces Soiree’s-La (Oh, What a Night)” and immediately holds attention. Gyp DeCarlo played by Todd DuBail is a problem solver, a fixer if you will. Bringing to the forefront what type of lifestyle these boys live. Tommy DeVito played by Corey Greenan is larger than life! You can see his passion for music and breaking the law. After all “ Jersey Boys put Jersey on the map. “ Laughter rang out because his personality is magnetic and you can’t help but believe everything he says. He’s the perfect storyteller. Frankie Valli played by Jonny Wexler entered with a Sunday Kinda Love. Girls swooned, I am sure of it.
Frankie continued throughout the night never disappointing, his talents were center stage as they should be. As we took time out of this magnificent musical to join in the shenanigans that Joey, played by Rick Desloge, where he leads the group to The Silhouette Club and we are introduced to the talents of Bob Gaudio played by Eric Chambliss. This character really changed the group and made you feel like there were no limits to what the group will accomplish.
Continuing into this journey of a blast from the past. The Four Seasons belt out the tune Sherry … aka Sherry Baby!!!! It was hard to stay in our seats. The applause was deafening! I would be remiss to not mention Bob Crewe, played by Wade Dooley, this guy brought so much light to the night. Act Two shows the dark side of the fame and fortune. The struggle was heartfelt and the stakes were high. This was a great night out! There is some adult language which I felt was important to set character types.
Great Cast! Great Sets! Great Direction!
