TradeWinds Island Resort is a family friendly beachfront property that has it all! Relax and unwind or play all day – it’s up to you. Located on the island of St. Pete Beach, which was recently voted the #1 beach destination in the US by TripAdvisor, TradeWinds offers vacationers a tropical atmosphere they can truly enjoy.
After checking in, guests head down the garden atrium to their respective buildings. This 8,000 square foot space includes conference rooms, a gift shop, bar, and the Palm Court Italian Grill.
Recently, guest rooms at TradeWinds Island Grand received a facelift reflecting an upscale look with natural stone travertine, nature-themed artwork, and dark wood furniture.
Our Gulf Front Suite was located in the Jacaranda building and included two queen beds in a separate bedroom, living space with pull out sleeper sofa, and kitchenette complete with refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and stove top. Our room also had a small step out balcony to enjoy those beautiful Gulf of Mexico views.
Remember the fun I mentioned earlier? TradeWinds goes above and beyond in the fun department. Just check out this 3-story High Tide Slide with three chutes to enjoy all day long!
The resort is full of recreational activities including:
- Triple Wipeout where guests can try out their surfing skills
- Beach Games like volleyball, corn hole, and bocce ball
- Shore Fishing
- Sun Sports like waverunners, parasailing, and kayaking
- Tennis
- Mini-Golf
- and the Extreme Zone where you can bungee and ride the gyrosphere
TradeWinds neighboring property, Guy Harvey Outpost is just 200 flip flops away and offers guests of both properties full access to all resort amenities. During our stay we dined at Guy Harvey’s RumFish Grill which showcases a 33,500 gallon aquarium inside the restaurant.
Reservations are highly recommended for this upscale restaurant. And if it’s booked, try the RumFish Grill bar which also houses a smaller tank. Guests of the resort will be amazed to find multi-story paintings from the world-famous marine wildlife artist.
TradeWinds has multiple dining options for guests including Bermudas Steak & Seafood, the Flying Bridge, and Beef O’ Brady’s. We had the opportunity to enjoy a buffet breakfast at Bermudas during out stay, which included hot items like pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and made to order omelets. The buffet had additional cold items like yogurt, cereal with milk, fruit, and danishes. The restaurant also offered traditional breakfast menu items, in addition to the buffet.
When walking through the Palm Court I couldn’t help but stop to admire the amazing chocolate fountain offered at the Palm Court brunch buffet. Seriously, how delectable does that look?
Enjoy the resort by paddle boat! TradeWinds Resort has a moat that runs through a few of the buildings where guests can cruise the waterway and take in the sights. You may even meet the resident swans and ducks. Alongside the banks the resort offers fish feeding stations. This activity is included in the resort amenity fee. The building where the boats are housed was under construction so unfortunately we were unable to partake, but we loved walking the property and feeding the swans and ducks.
Tradewinds offers seven separate heated pools for guests to enjoy between the two properties, including a kiddie pool, adult only pool, and covered pool.
For a small resort amenity fee guests can enjoy unlimited rides on the High Tide Slide and Triple Wipeout, as well as parking, Wi-Fi, beach cabana for two, fitness center and classes, tennis courts, beach games, pool towels and more! Once checked in reserve your beach cabana in advance at reservemycabana.com! I found it to be very convenient.
Captain RedBeard drops by Pirate Island to show kids how to make their own sharktooth necklace or buccaneer beads. Plus enjoy a free family pirate show on Saturdays at 7pm (and Wednesdays during Spring/Summer).
TradeWinds offers a select number of pet-friendly rooms for guests traveling with their four-legged friends. The resort even accommodates man’s best friend with a dog park on property!
Our Thoughts
Our stay at the resort in December was one of the best family vacations thus far, and that’s saying something! We travel near and far a few times a year and we had such a wonderful time at TradeWinds Island Resort. We will definitely be back! From outstanding customer service, to the beautiful grounds, and amenities abound, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
I also had time to stop into the Body Works Spa for an aromatherapy massage. And the kids enjoyed a painting craft at KONK Activities Center. At Pirate Island the boys found 5 shark teeth hidden in the sandbox! Everything about our visit was top-notch.
While we did visit during the off-season, TradeWinds does offer one last thing worth mentioning: Splash Island Water Park! This giant inflatable floating playground offers guests hours of fun bouncing, sliding, climbing and splashing. The splash park is open Friday through Sunday beginning in March until the weather gets chilly. Additional charges for the water park apply.
