Do you remember making diorama’s as a kid? I do! This simple kids craft requires just a few things to create: an old shoe box, some construction paper, and an imagination. Inspired by my recent press trip to LA for The Good Dinosaur, I thought I’d teach the boys how to make a Dinosaur Diorama.
Today’s post is partnered with Pacon. All opinions are my own.
First things first! You can’t have a Dino Diorama without a dinosaur, right? 🙂 Pacon Creative Cut-Ups™ offers parents and teachers a handy book filled with creative paper projects, like dinosaurs, robots, animals and even flowers! We chose to make this green T-Rex for our diorama.
Dinosaur Diorama Instructions:
After cutting out the design we got to work assembling the dinosaur. Each project offers easy-to-follow instructions on the page, and with a little glue and tape our dinosaur came alive!
Dinosaur Diorama
What you’ll need:
- A shoe box big enough to fit your dinosaur.
- Construction paper
- Glue/tape & scissors
- Printables for the background, like these trees I found online. Stencils work too!
- Pipe cleaner and any other art materials you may want to use.
Begin by gluing construction paper to the back of the shoe box. Then have the kids trace the printables onto construction paper and cut them out. Continue gluing or taping the decor inside the box. We used the pipe cleaner for the sun and jungle vines, and hand cut the mountains and grass to add to the bottom of the diorama.
“What about the river, mom?” asked my 4 year old. Arlo in The Good Dinosaur lives near a river, so we had to create one for our dinosaur too.
The kids loved using their imagination to come up with ideas for their dinosaur diorama. And now their T-Rex has a home to call its own!
Pacon Creative Cut-Ups are a fun way to add imagination and creativity to your child’s art projects. Choose from three themed pads with a variety of designs. Awesome Adventures with 10 projects including two dinosaurs, three robots, three aliens and two beetles. Fanciful Flowers contains 7 projects including two flower crowns, two flower ring and bracelet sets, two pencil toppers and one flower bouquet. Amusing Animal Masks contains 10 projects including two pig masks, two cow masks, one hen mask, one rooster mask and four horse masks.
My boys love dressing up in all sorts of costumes for imaginative play. L was excited to create a fun animal mask and chose the horse. The designs offer accessories, like the battle armour below.

That looks like so much fun! My 6-year-old loves to put on puppet shows and stuff of that sort, and the paper figures would be perfect for adding to the performances.
