This is a partnered post with Legends of Learning. All opinions are my own.
Teachers and parents this post is for you! As a school principal, I’m often looking for supplemental science material to help engage my students with a curriculum that they sometimes struggle with. I recently came across a program called Legends of Learning that can help your child become a science superhero!
Legends of Learning – Science Games for Kids
Through a technology platform Legends of Learning engages students. It has hundreds of games that address specific science topics, such as earth science, life science, physical science, and the scientific method. And the best part is it’s free for teachers and students!
Teachers
As a teacher, you can create playlists and send a special code to your students in the classroom to play. This is very helpful for students when studying for a specific science lesson. For example, if your class is studying the water cycle and you want to make sure that your students understood the information, you could assign a playlist with the following games: Let’s Ride the Water Cycle, The Water Circle, The Water Cycler, and Ms. Rose and the Water Cycle. The greatest part for teachers is the data it collects from the students playing the games. That information provides detailed information on whether a student may need additional support on the lesson.
I would definitely suggest playing the games before you send them out to your students. This will help you be aware of the questions that are being asked. The games focus on the Next Generation Science Standards, so they are not state specific. At this time the site does not allow for teachers to create their own questions, but it is something they might look into in the future. The platform is iPad compatible, but not all features are available. I tried playing from my iPad and it was doable, but there were some glitches.
Parents
Legends of Learning focuses on elementary grades 3-5 and middle school grades 6-8, but if your child really enjoys science I encourage them to explore the site. It is easy to sign up and create your own superhero avatar, so you can discover the different science focused games.
Let your child’s teacher know about this wonderful site, so they can create their own free class. When parents and teachers support one another children will prosper!
