Disney’s “The Lion King” is roaring back to life with the return of the classic film on Blu-ray and DVD. If you’re planning an end of summer celebration consider making it a Lion King movie night! It’s the perfect time to introduce this fantastic animated film to a whole new generation. Below you’ll find ideas for planning the perfect Lion King movie night, including treats, and a reader giveaway!
This is a partnered post. All opinions are my own.
About the film:
“The Lion King” follows the adventures of Simba, a feisty lion cub who cannot wait to be king, as he searches for his destiny in the great “Circle of Life.” A new generation of fans will laugh with Timon and Pumbaa, cry with Simba and Mufasa, and burst into song!
The Lion King Movie Night Set-Up:
A quality portable projector, like this one is key. The P300 Pico mini projector is great! The set-up is very easy, especially with the USB Plug ‘n Play instant set up. We chose to connect the projector to our DVD player using a HDMI cable, but you can connect it to your laptop or phone as well.
Next, you’ll want to make sure everyone can hear the movie. This Ion Tailgater worked perfectly for our outdoor movie night. It’s a #1 best-seller on Amazon and offers an amazing 50-hour rechargeable battery life, bluetooth connectivity, and even includes a microphone. We give it 2 thumbs up.
The projector has a really clear picture, so you can use areas like the garage door, side of your home, or even a DIY white blanket screen for displaying the movie. Another option is purchasing an outdoor movie screen, like one of these.
Lion King Movie Night Snacks:
A Lion Party Tray – you’ll need crackers/chips, a few black olives, bell peppers, and hummus dip. It’s easy to pull off this colorful lion party tray, and it’s healthy too!
Brownie Peanut Butter Cookie Dessert Paws – Mix up a batch of boxed brownies, and separately mix up a batch of peanut butter cookie batter. Using a paw print mold, add a scoop of each batter to the paw molds. Bake as directed, and once cooled, pop them out of the molds for fun and tasty dessert paws! With the leftover batter you can make a small batch of brownie cookies and once cooled; use cookie cutters (like the lion pictured) for more fun designs.
More Lion King Movie Snacks:
Don’t forget popcorn – that’s a movie snack classic! Another idea is Oreo dirt cups with gummy worms for a Timon and Pumbaa themed snack. Click the image below for additional Lion King recipes, like Bug Smoothies, Lady Berry Bugs, Ant Appetizers, and printable masks for the kids!
Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to sit down with the film creators to discuss the film’s success, their favorite moments, and more. I also met the charming Ernie Sabella, who voices Pumbaa in the original film. Additionally, it was announced earlier this year at D23 Expo that The Lion King is returning in a live-action film.
