The world’s number one musical is now playing at Dr. Phillips Center! The Lion King Orlando Broadway performance is returning to Central Florida for the next four weeks, Feb. 14 – March 11. My husband and I had the opportunity to attend a live performance of the musical and were completely blown away! The amount of work and intricate detail that went into every ounce of this show has made it a sensational hit. From the beautifully detailed costumes to the outstanding performers, The Lion King Broadway Musical is a must-see!
I was invited as media to cover this event. All opinions are my own.
The Lion King Orlando Broadway Performance
In its 20th year, The Lion King continues ascendant as one of the most popular stage musicals in the world. The entire Serengeti comes to life as never before. The performance goes beyond the stage as wildebeest, rhino, elephant, and birds transcend throughout the theater. As the music soars, Pride Rock slowly emerges from the mist. Audiences follow the familiar tale of Simba in Disney’s The Lion King.
About the Music:
The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice’s music from The Lion King animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from “Rhythm of the Pride Lands,” an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer. The resulting sound of The Lion King is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Academy Award®-winning song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” to the haunting ballad “Shadowland.”
African drummers can be seen above the stage as Rafiki opens the show. You feel transported to Africa as the story unfolds with giraffe on tall stilts and the familiar sounds of musical numbers. The performers are in detailed costumes with masks and truly bring the story to life. It’s truly a magical performance!
