We were invited as media to attend the Orlando Magic game.
Are you a sports fan? Well, I am, and when given the chance to watch a game on the television or go see it live in person, I would always say live is better. The cheering of the crowd, the ebb and flow of the game and the comradery of the fans chanting for the home team brings the viewing experience to a whole new level. Last Friday, Jen and I were given an opportunity that we could not pass up. We got to take our four-year old to his first Orlando Magic basketball game. He had asked us to take him to a game all season, and we when the chance finally arrived we jumped at it.
The Magic are in a rebuilding stage with the loss of popular players such as Dwight Howard and J.J. Redick, but even with all the new faces they put on a great performance. On this night the Magic were facing a very talented Oklahoma City team with players such as Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, and Kendrick Perkins, which was going to be a tough match up for them.
Going into the game I did not think that we had a chance. Being down by 13 in the first half did not really boost my confidence, but then something happened toward the start of the 3rd quarter, when Jameer Nelson hit two three pointers to cut into the lead. I found myself cheering louder and louder. My wife tried to calm me down, but I was hooked. My son was doing the same, cheering for the Magic, yelling at the refs for bad calls, it was really funny. It was like I had a little mini-me standing next to me.
The Magic took the lead in the 4th quarter and the crowd went wild. Even though the game ended with a Magic loss, it was still an amazing experience for our little guy and the whole family. This team never gave up. They have heart, which is all I could ask for as a fan. We were able to see some of Orlando’s up-and-coming players like Tobias Harris and Maurice Harkless. Harkless had a great night, scoring 25 points, 4 blocks, and 9 rebounds. He had some amazing dunks and got me to my feet multiple times cheering.
I would highly recommend going to see the Orlando Magic play at the new Amway Center. It is a beautiful facility with tons of fun for the family. The season is almost over, but I for one cannot wait for next year when our players will be more developed and ready to make a run at the playoffs. GO MAGIC!
The Amway Center is located at 400 W Church Street Orlando, Fl 32801. Their phone number is 407.440.7000.
