The Pixels movie is in theaters today! If you’re in the mood for some nostalgic gaming, music, and a lot of laughs – go see Pixels! With a solid comedic cast and some great action this movie is definitely worth a trip to the theaters. You will be mesmerized by your favorite gaming characters coming to life on the big screen. It’s intense at times (I saw it in 3D), but still appropriate for kids ages 13 and up.
Plan to see many old-school video games characters like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Q*bert with computer generated imagery (CGI). Watch out for glowing cubes that fall from the sky! I kept saying, “how did they do that?” while watching the film.
During interviews with the cast, Adam joked about castmate Josh Gad’s ad libbing being bananas. One of the funniest parts of the film is when Josh’s character (Ludlow) gives the US Navy Seals a “pep talk” before they help the Arcaders defend the world from an intergalactic attack. Seriously funny guys! But when the “nerds takeover” things get interesting! Thanks to Michelle’s character (Lt Colonel Violet Van Patten) who’s a weapons designer for the President, she pulls off an effective way to help the Arcaders fight Pac-Man.
I’ll stay tight-lipped about the rest of the film, other than Q*bert may just steal the show! 😉 Hopefully I’ve peaked your inner gamer side, and you are looking forward to seeing the Pixels movie!
About the film:
When aliens intercept video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack Earth, using the games as models. Knowing that he must employ a similar strategy, President Will Cooper (Kevin James) recruits his childhood pal, former video-game champ and home-theater installer Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), to lead a team of old-school arcade players (Peter Dinklage, Josh Gad) and a military specialist (Michelle Monaghan) to save the planet.

My son wants to see this movie so badly. He’s 11. I’ll probably wait until it comes to DVD so my husband and/or I can preview it first before showing it to him.

I am hoping it is as good as the previews. I’d hate for my 80’s memories to be tarnished!
