Pokeball Cupcakes Tutorial
Using one dozen of your favorite cupcakes (we opted for chocolate), you can easily pull off these adorable Pokemon inspired cupcakes. Whether you opt for store-bought cupcakes or make your own from a box mix, or from scratch, this tutorial will be your guide for transforming any cupcakes into Pokeball Cupcakes!
What you’ll need:
Ready-made decorative frosting (we went for red, but white frosting would also work)
4-5 oz. white fondant
4-5 oz. red fondant
2-3 oz. black fondant
Tools needed:
Circle cookie cutter, about 1.5 inches diameter
Offset spatula
Any frosting tip
Paring knife
Step by Step Tutorial of Pokeball Cupcakes:
- Using an offset spatula, frost each cupcake with a thin layer of decorative frosting.
- Roll out white fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch in thickness. Use cookie cutter to cut out 6 circles.
- Roll out red fondant and cut out 6 circles with the same cookie cutter.
- Cut each fondant circle in half.
- Place one red demi circle on the top of each cupcake.
- Place one white demi circle on each cupcake.
- Roll out black fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick.
- Use a paring knife to cut out black fondant strips, about 3 inches long and 1/3 of an inch thick. You’ll need 12 of them.
- Place between white and red fondant on cupcake, trimming where necessary.
- Use the bottom of frosting tip to cut out 12 white circles and place on the center of each cupcake, right on the black strip.
Tip: The fondant should be sticky enough for the pieces to stay put. However, to keep it extra secure, you can brush a bit of water on the back of each piece before assembling. Serve and enjoy!

About the Pokemon Detective Pikachu Movie
Ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son, Tim, to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth Detective Pikachu. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to work together, as Tim is the only human who can talk with Pikachu, they join forces to unravel the tangled mystery.
My boys laughed out loud during this fun Pokemon movie. Some of their favorite parts included the Greninja chasing Pikachu and Tim in the lab, and when they come across Mr. Mime and asked for clues, but he only acts them out instead of speaking.
The Pokemon Detective Pikachu Movie is in theaters now!
