Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Review
About the film:
Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination.
My 9-year-old was non-stop talking about the Sonic movie the entire week before our media screening. While he’s not familiar with the 90’s Sega games, he’s become quite the movie buff and read a book about Sonic the Hedgehog leading up to the film’s release.
Our Thoughts:
The film starts out with Sonic leaving home because he’s in danger. He uses golden rings to escape and eventually finds himself on planet Earth. He lives a lonely life staying hidden away so he’s not exposed. He becomes very fond of Tom, a local Sherrif in town, and observes his generous spirit towards animals.
He wishes that somehow the two can be friends. One day while Sonic is feeling sorry for himself he becomes very angry and his powers build-up to the point where he puts the entire area in a blackout! This draws the attention of the department of defense who turns to the evil yet brilliant Dr. Robotnik for help.
When Tom learns of his little shadow and that he’s in need of help, he’s all in. And that’s where the adventure begins! Be sure to stay through the credits for a surprise!
