WHAT? Hold ON…I can’t hear you! I SAID, I CAN’T HEAR YOU!!! Some form of that very dialogue takes place in households across the world each day as we attempt to start each morning with our favorite blended breakfast; a fruit smoothie. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could find a solution that offered a quieter blender?
Smoothies have been my go-to breakfast, and sometimes lunch for years. It’s a quick meal on busy days and allows me to incorporate at least one serving of fruits and/or veggies in my frozen drink. The downside though, making a smoothie is SO LOUD!
I have a constant worry that I am waking up my family or annoying my coworkers while making them. Somedays, honestly, I don’t want to deal with the ear-splitting noise myself. The Sound Shield 950 by Hamilton Beach is a blender that incorporates a noise case and quieter base in an attempt to lessen the jolting noise. So, does it really work? Was noise “significantly” reduced?

An office setting seemed like an ideal environment to test the Hamilton Beach Sound Shield 950, so off to work it went! Once set-up, a fair warning was given (via email) to all my colleagues and I invited everyone to try out the blender with me.
Excitedly, we made smoothies for Bosses Day, which was a breeze with the “Smoothie” blend function. This function pulses a few times to draw down the ingredients and then blends until smooth with the simple tap of a single button. Hands down, this is my favorite feature of the blender.
The glass pitcher and lid make pouring multiple glasses of smoothies easy. Clean up is made easier as well with a feature that pulses and cleans the blender by adding a few drops of liquid dish soap and warm water.

Fruit Smoothie Recipe
Here is an office favorite smoothie recipe that is sure to please many!
Ingredients
1 banana 1 cup frozen strawberries 1 cup frozen pineapple, mango, or peach 1 cup yogurt 1 cup apple juice 1/2 cup of ice
Instructions
Press the Smoothie Button on the Hamilton Beach blender wait approximately 1-2 minutes, serve and enjoy!
What about the noise though? Okay, back to that topic. The casing surrounding the blender pitcher does reduce the high frequency sounds typical of most large blenders, but was it a significant reduction? Not really…yes, the blender as compared to other blenders, including a personal single-serving blender is undoubtedly quieter.
But, it is still a blender after all. Working in a 1900’s 2-story structure, this blender when turned on is heard from all four corners of the office, so there is no hiding the fact that someone is whipping up a snack, meal replacement, or frozen coffee. Despite the noise inherent to blending, our office is thoroughly enjoying the Hamilton Beach Sound Shield 950, and have enjoyed making new smoothies to share daily.
