Space Jam A New Legacy Movie Review
This transformational journey is a manic mash-up of two worlds that reveals just how far some parents will go to connect with their kids. When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny, and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.
Family members young and old will love Space Jam A New Legacy! With all the nostalgic throwbacks in the film, plus loveable Looney Tunes characters, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. It’s been several years since the original Space Jam with Michael Jordan so I didn’t go into the theater with expectations other than to enjoy a film with my family.
And I should probably preface by saying I’m not really a Lebron fan, however, that did not alter my opinion of the film. There are SO many others reasons to love this movie!
What I liked most (other than the many comedic moments) were the messages in the film, and that is there are many things life can throw your way that can be a distraction, but it’s important to slow down and enjoy quality family time. And the other message is you won’t be great at what you want without hard work.
I will say there’s a huge teaser in the film – something I was on the edge of my seat for – but you’ll have to wait and see the outcome of that! No spoilers here. And OMG Porky Pig aka The Notorious P.I.G. raps and it’s worthy of audience applause!
I will mention, Don Cheadle who plays “Al G Rithm” is not a great guy in the film, okay he’s a bad guy. He is the “computer program” inside alllll of our devices and social media sites that’s constantly changing things. Ugh – as a content creator I can totally relate to this reference as algorithms are thorns in our side, seriously! It definitely has some techy parts of the film, however, I think that allows multiple age groups to enjoy Space Jam A New Legacy.
While the movie may be a little slow to start, it ramps up fairly quickly and provides a slew of nostalgia (just wait until you see the audience full of Warner Brothers references) and comedic moments in addition to one intense basketball game!
