Will Smith brings his humor and charm to the animated comedy! Spies in Disguise goes beyond a typical film for kids and families – there are real-life lessons to be learned along the way. My boys and I went to an early screening of the film and loved it! I especially enjoyed the mix of kid and adult humor so it catered to everyone in the family. Here’s our Spies in Disguise movie review.

Spies in Disguise Movie Review
Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is… not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can’t learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril. Spies In Disguise is an animated comedy set in the high-octane globe-trotting world of international espionage.
Some of my favorite moments in the film touched on topics like bullying, self-confidence, teamwork, and more. When top dog Lance Sterling learns he’s being impersonated by an evil villain the super spy has to right the wrong. Without the help of his spy agency who doesn’t believe him, he has to take on the mission alone, or does he? Walter Beckett is the lone creative genius at the agency who believes him and won’t take Sterling’s persistent refusals to heart. He wants to prove that his wildly interesting gadgets can be helpful to Sterling. Along the way, Sterling realizes he can’t do this on his own and really does need the help of a team.
One of my favorite quotes in the film is “evil doesn’t care how friendly you are.” That hits really close to home for us as of late. Sometimes – no matter your age – you come across someone who does not have the best of intentions. Another quote that spoke to me is when Walter says to Sterling, “I’ll always have your back…that’s what it means to be a team.” Even animated films can have subliminal messages that leave a lasting impression.
Spies in Disguise is filled with intense action scenes, loads of comical relief, encouraging conversations about Science and STEM, plus some great life lessons. We highly recommend the film, in theaters December 25th.
