Let’s get planning that summer calendar! If your budget is a little light this year that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the fun. We’re sharing practical summer staycation ideas that you can enjoy near your home that won’t break the bank. Grab this free summer staycation printable below!
Summer Staycation Ideas
What is a staycation exactly? It’s when you and your family enjoy things in your own town/city/state instead of venturing off to other destinations. You not only support your own community and give back to local businesses but save money by not blowing your budget on airline flights, hotels, etc.
We’ve provided a list of more than 30 summer staycation ideas for you and your significant other or family to enjoy together. One of my personal favorites is planning an outdoor movie night (you can make it a block party with neighbors or invite friends and family over). Another favorite is going on a foodie tour in your city or a nearby city.
By opting for a staycation, you can choose to take a few vacation days throughout the summer, or plan your adventures over weekends and save your vacation hours for another occasion or holiday break.
Many of the suggestions we have for staycation ideas won’t cost you anything more than gas money! It’s a great budget-friendly vacation! I’m hoping that I can surprise my son with a trip to Great Wolfe Lodge this summer. It all depends on my budget. Last year I surprised him with a trip to the water park and he loved the surprise.

We actually love staycations, and we do them even if we have more than enough money to travel. We have a lot to see and do around us, and it’s always a fun time, especially when you don’t have to deal with a long travel time.
