As a longtime Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) fan, I approached the TMNT Mutant Mayhem movie with a mix of excitement and apprehension. Having grown up with the heroes in a half shell, I held the cherished memories of the classic animated series and the 90s movies close to my heart.
After my family and I watched an early screening of the film, I’m pleased to report that this new installment struck a balance between nostalgia and modern storytelling, resulting in an action-packed, fun-filled cinematic experience.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem Movie Review
About the film: In TMNT: Mutant Mayhem, after years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.
TMNT stars: Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Hannibal Buress, Rose Byrne, Nicolas Cantu, John Cena, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, Natasia Demetriou, Ayo Edebiri, Giancarlo Esposito, Post Malone, Brady Noon, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph
The movie follows the four beloved turtles—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael—as they find themselves embroiled in a thrilling adventure to save New York City from the clutches of a diabolical villain, Super Fly. The only problem is, their father Splinter is a shut-in and has strict rules that the turtles must stay away from humans. The movie pokes fun several times that humans are out to “milk them.” However, all these teenagers want is to be accepted which -let’s face it- is relatable to every teenager on the planet.
The turtles’ camaraderie and unwavering bond continue to be at the core of the story, and the movie does an excellent job of showcasing the growth and development of each character. Both young and older fans will resonate with the storyline. We felt the writers did an excellent job displaying a story that both parents and teenagers can learn from, and with plenty of witty humor and heartfelt moments, the TMNT Mutant Mayhem movie is a hit for the whole family!
The film’s animation style is a striking blend of traditional 2D and cutting-edge CGI. This choice pays homage to the franchise’s roots while adding a modern touch. At first glance, I wasn’t sure about the animation style, but as the film unfolded it grew on me.
The action sequences in TMNT Mutant Mayhem are thrilling, with each turtle getting their fair share of heroic moments. From acrobatic combat to showcasing their unique weapons, the battles are reminiscent of the TMNT‘s classic fights, sure to leave fans cheering for more.
The film is rated PG so even the youngest family members have an opportunity to enjoy it! We do recall some milder language like hell and damn mentioned in the film.
In conclusion, TMNT Mutant Mayhem is a delightful addition to the iconic franchise and this action-packed ride reminds us why we fell in love with these pizza-loving heroes in the first place. Is there an end credit scene? Yes, one, so make sure to stick around post the credits.
The film releases ahead of schedule on Wednesday, Aug 2nd. Get your tickets now! Watch the movie trailer here.
