The Bachelor Peter’s Mom is a drama queen who didn’t get her way and threw a royal sized fit on national television. Chris Harrison wasn’t lying when he said this was the most dramatic ending to a Bachelor season, ever. On last night’s season finale part 2 of The Bachelor – Peter Weber took Bachelor Nation on a wild roller coaster of emotions.
The Bachelor Peter’s Mom is a Drama Queen!
On part 1 of the season finale, we see Peter’s family favor Hannah Ann, someone they’ve met once. Instead of giving Madi a fair shot, they immediately go into defense mode asking her questions as if it were a job interview. Do I feel they overstepped with their emotional pleading of their son choosing who THEY wanted for him? Absolutely. Do I understand a mother’s love for her son, no doubt – I have two sons of my own. But this isn’t Peter’s family finding love, this is a 28-year-old man on his own journey to find love.
My sister in law’s and I run a podcast called Reality Wine. We are HUGE “The Bachelor” fans and wanted an outlet to share our thoughts with like-minded listeners. From the beginning of the season, the four of us picked our top 4 contestants we thought Peter Weber would end up with. I held true to my top two ladies, Hannah Ann and Madison – with Madi being my choice for Peter.
The Bachelor Finale Part 1
In the gut-wrenching Bachelor finale part 1, we see Madi “hanging on by a thread,” as she puts it. She’s in love with Peter, that’s not the issue, but it’s all the “other crap” she shares that’s weighing her down. You have to remember, these ladies are pulled out of their natural environment with no support line and it has to be difficult relying on one guy for that reassurance, but yet he’s tied to more than just one relationship. It was clear to me that Peter was in love with Madi and that was his number 1 choice, but she let Peter’s parents get into her head when they infer they have too many differences to make this work. She ends up leaving Peter and going home on their final date – something that’s unheard of in Bachelor history.
Meanwhile, Hannah Ann is clueless about the entire situation that’s unfolded, but on her final date with Peter, she can tell something’s off with him. He doesn’t open up. He keeps her in the friend zone, repeatedly telling her how much of a rock she’s been for him. Hannah Ann is beginning to get worried that he’s not going to pick her in the end, even though she’s the only one left.
The Bachelor Finale Part 2
On finale night part 2, we see Peter struggling with his heartbreak over Madison, yet he gets down on one knee and proposes to the last woman standing, Hannah Ann. This is where Peter makes his biggest mistake of the season. Is it because he didn’t want to let H.A. go? Is it because he didn’t want to be embarrassed that he didn’t find love on The Bachelor? H.A. is stunned to learn he’s picked her, but has he really?
When Peter shares the news with his family, Peter’s mom overreacts with the biggest boo-hoo I’ve heard from a grown woman. Yes, I get that she’s invested, but is she over-invested in her grown son’s relationship?
Peter is now back in LA and on stage with Chris Harrison for the remainder of the show’s finale. Chris hints that Peter’s not even sure how this season is going to end – that’s a bad sign….considering he’s proposed to H.A. They cut to The Bachelor Peter’s mom way too many times during the show where all of the viewers see her negative expressions, rolling of the eyes, and plain disgust. A bit much? Yes.
We see Peter break Hannah Ann’s heart when they meet up a month after the proposal and he’s still struggling to move on from his feelings for Madi. He tells her he just can’t get there. He can’t give her the same amount of love that she’s giving him. For the first time, we really see H.A. be more than just a vanilla go-with-the-flow kind of girl who was willing to mold into the man she loves and she actually defend herself. She tells him on stage that he was selfish to take that moment away from her: an engagement, and that he should’ve been upfront about what happened back in Australia with Madi. She also tells him words are powerful and asks “do you not know the weight of your words?” To this, his mom claps and cheers and that’s okay because she cares for H.A. and knows that what her son did to her wasn’t right. H.A. gets the last word when she tells Peter that he didn’t “respect her enough to sit her down and tell her the truth, and even drops a bombshell that there was a third girl in their engagement, Hannah B, who he called to get closure from once the season wrapped.
Madison
Unbeknownst to Peter, Chris Harrison travels to Alabama to meet with Madi where he shares that Peter has broken off his engagement to H.A. because he’s still in love with her. She says, “it breaks my heart to hear that, but that it’s also a good feeling.” While she’s sharing her feelings with Chris about her heartbreak and that it’s been the hardest time of her life moving on from Peter, she also mentions that sometimes it was tough to have an appetite. I can completely relate because I’ve had a heartbreak before that’s left me depressed and I didn’t have much of an appetite myself – yet The Bachelor Peter’s mom chooses to roll her eyes at Madi’s feelings. Unbelievable?! She’s going to look back on this and regret all of these faces she’s made in the end. You know you’re on camera. Come on. Be a grown-up!
Madison is in studio and comes out to greet Peter. She has so much love in her heart for Peter and he feels the same. While they both have some healing to do, he’s happy to be sitting next to her, and wants to take their relationship day by day without any labels. Chris gives The Bachelor Peter’s mom yet another opportunity to speak on camera where she talks about herself – instead of choosing the high road. She mentions all the love she’s received from viewers in her DM’s – I’m sorry does she want the limelight? She then complains about what viewers didn’t see; Madi taking 3 hours to get the courage to meet up with his family. Well, Peter and Madi needed to have a conversation because THEY are the ones in the relationship and things needed to be worked out, but don’t keep mommy dearest waiting too long. Geeze!
Madi sticks up for herself in the classiest of ways saying she’s unashamed of who she is and remained undeniably herself throughout The Bachelor season. Something many women can be proud of. She also adds that she will never say a negative word about anyone on television. Take a hint mom! By the way, I would’ve loved to see Madi’s parents in the audience too, backing their daughter up. Peter interjects and turns to his family to say, “I love this woman. I’m asking you guys to respect that and to give her a chance.”
Yet again, Peter’s mom gets the floor and says Peter will have to fail to succeed. At that point, she gets booed by the audience, and rightfully so. She overstepped many times, but that was just plain uncalled for. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a Bachelor, or Bachelorette’s parents ever behave in this manner. Again, Madison remains classy and strong, defending that this journey was not only about Peter but about the woman he fell in love with too.
My final thoughts
Do I think Peter and Madi’s love will last? Probably not. There’s just too much baggage. Do I feel Peter made a ton of mistakes as The Bachelor? Yes. Do I feel he deserves love? Everyone does. What a season! I honestly couldn’t stand the amount of drama this season. It was over the top. Claire is our oldest Bachelorette and her season will kick off soon. I’m definitely intrigued by how ABC will plan this group of men for Claire. I imagine most will be in their mid-late 30’s or even 40’s so I’m expecting a completely different tone for this next season.
