As a mom of two young boys, both being extraordinarily different and smart in their own ways, The Book of Henry really spoke to me. The film is engaging, suspenseful, and a great reminder about what being a parent is all about. Read more on my no-spoiler film review below, and check out the trailer. The Book of Henry
Sometimes things are not always what they seem, especially in the small suburban town where the Carpenter family lives. Single suburban mother Susan Carpenter (Naomi Watts) works as a waitress at a diner, alongside feisty family friend Sheila (Sarah Silverman). Her younger son Peter (Jacob Tremblay) is a playful 8-year-old. Taking care of everyone and everything in his own unique way is Susan’s older son Henry (Jaeden Lieberher), age 11. Protector to his adoring younger brother and tireless supporter of his often self-doubting mother – and, through investments, of the family as a whole – Henry blazes through the days like a comet. Susan discovers that the family next door, which includes Henry’s kind classmate Christina (Maddie Ziegler), has a dangerous secret – and that Henry has devised a surprising plan to help. As his brainstormed rescue plan for Christina takes shape in thrilling ways, Susan finds herself at the center of it.
The film is rated PG-13.

This thought-provoking film really speaks to families, and moms. I love the endearing relationship between Henry and Peter, and hope my boys’ relationship develops similarly. I brought my 9 year old to the screening, as he’s a brilliant, gifted child, and I could see the similarities between Henry and him. With Henry’s curious nature, he uncovers a big secret and puts a plan to action, only to be stumbled by a visit to the hospital. But does his plan make sense? There are several intense moments in the film which leave you on the edge of your seat, and questioning what you would do in that same situation. Make sure to have plenty of tissues on hand. This film is definitely one to watch as a family (with mature children), date night, or girls night out!

I like the story of this movie, I didn’t hear if it did well or not but I did see the trailer a while back.

This actually sounds like a terrific movie. I think it would be one we would enjoy seeing. I have seen a couple trailers for it, and it all looks decent. I think this would be one where it could spark conversations afterwards.
