I don’t know about you, but I’m SO happy to see a movie opening in theaters again. It’s been way too long! The War With Grandpa is a hilarious film based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith. The film has an all-star cast too!
This is a partnered post. All opinions are my own.
The War With Grandpa
Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid-he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter’s family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won’t go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.
Fun fact: we interviewed Oakes Fegley for his role in Disney’s Pete’s Dragon movie. He’s a really sweet kid (despite what you may see on the big screen during this film) and even chatted with my boys during the movie screening.
Now for the rest of the cast – wow what a great line-up! I loooove De Niro, then you have Uma Thurman as Peter’s mom, and Cheech, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Walken as De Niro’s sidekicks.
Peter’s grandpa is lonely as he’s lost his wife, and his daughter (Thurman) is concerned about him, so she invites him to move in. There’s just one problem – there’s no room for grandpa.
So poor Peter gets moved up to the dark and creepy attic before it’s been cleared of its other inhabitants like bats and mice. Peter’s a pre-teen and not having it, so he seeks help from a few school friends who suggest he start a prank war with his grandpa so he’ll move out of his room.
Grandpa Ed accepts his grandson’s prank challenge which seems to provide a great distraction for his loneliness, except things get a bit too out of hand….
The War With Grandpa is rated PG so you can be assured it’s a family-friendly comedy. And this couldn’t be better timing because 2020 has given us quite the stressful year, so it’s nice to have some comic relief while enjoying something everyone has missed – going to the movie theaters!
