If you’re tired of losing items in your car – why not create a catch-all cup? Certain items have a tendency to get lost between or under the seats, in your bag or possibly fall out the door once open. Here’s an easy way to keep all of those necessary items in one handy spot – a DIY Car Cup Holder.
If you like easy DIY crafts – this is for you! Washi tape is all the craze with creative and bold designs that allow you to use it just about anywhere.
DIY Cup Holder
Here’s what you’ll need for the craft:
- Goo Gone or another surface cleaner
- A plastic or tin jar
- An assortment of decorative tape rolls
- Scissors
Next Steps:
First, make sure the re-purposed tin or plastic jar fits into your car cup holder space. Next, soak the jar in warm water to help remove the outside labeling, and clean the jar thoroughly. If you’re unable to remove all the old labeling, try using Goo Gone or another surface cleaner to remove the rest. This step is not a necessity, but we chose to use sandpaper to remove any additional stickiness from the jar. Once wiped clean and dried, you can begin the craft.
I chose to use some fun spring colors and dry erase tape for my DIY cup holder. I began by putting the dry erase tape in the center, then used the other 2 fun decorative tape colors to apply on each end. I used the larger washi tape design for the top of the jar so it would cover the lid ridges, and I folded over any extra tape inside the jar. I used the solid color around the bottom of the jar and voila – done! 🙂 Check out the above image for reference.
With a dry erase marker I wrote my own message, but you can of course create whatever design you’d like. That’s the fun part about crafting and using decorative tape – there’s endless angles and designs you can come up with.
I filled my cup with important items like pens (we always need one and can’t ever find one), individual sanitizing wipes, and our favorite gum – Extra® Gum Spearmint.
Speaking of gum, have you seen the new Extra® 35-stick packs? You’ll find them at Target in the candy aisle or during check out.
Their durable, recycled packaging fits along with our craft theme of re-purposing an old jar. Give Extra, Get Extra with Extra® Gum Spearmint and Extra® Gum Polar Ice® 35-stick packs. My kids are always asking me for gum, and with these new packs I have plenty to share. There’s actually over 2 packs inside!
Oh – and be sure to check out the Target Cartwheel app while shopping for great deals!
Say goodbye to car clutter with this fun DIY cup holder and hello to fresh breath with Extra® Gum!
